The summary is now available

It was great that so many of you took the time to give feedback on our plans for State Highway 76 Brougham Street earlier this year. In total, we received more than 1,000 individual pieces of feedback.

Thank you once again! We were so pleased with the number of comments and suggestions.

You can read the full Engagement Summary here. It includes an overview of the feedback received and responses to some of the key questions raised.

New community group helps shape overbridge design

We want to get the new cycling and walking overbridge between Collins Street and Simeon Street right. It’s important to us that it works for the community who will be using it.

That’s why we’ve set up a group of community representatives to help us as we work on our designs.

The group includes mana whenua and people from organisations who represent older community members, cyclists, schools, those who are differently abled and heritage and community groups.

Over the coming months we’ll meet to discuss and test our concepts, with a focus on safety, lighting and accessibility, landscaping, storytelling and design.

Next steps

Over the coming months we’ll be working on more detailed designs, getting consents and meeting with property owners.

As mentioned, we will also be collaborating with the bridge focus group to develop the pedestrian and cycle overbridge design.

We’ll share the final designs, along with information about construction, before starting work. All going to plan, we expect to start construction in 2023.

We’re looking forward to making it safer and easier for people to do everyday things, like taking children to school, travelling to work, moving goods and doing business.
