Five considerations for 2023Our members, together with Canada’s other foundations and grantmakers contribute immensely to Canadian society. In 2023, incredible opportunities lay ahead of us, but also some looming challenges we need to keep top of mind to ensure we show up for our communities on the issues that matter. Our partners need philanthropy to lean in to provide support and leadership in meaningful ways. Here are the five key issues that PFC's looking at this year that our President & CEO encourages you to consider and reflect on.
Non-qualified donees:
Making our voices heard by January 31On January 10, PFC hosted a webinar to further explore potential impacts of proposed Government of Canada guidelines on new rules to allow granting to non-qualified donees. After the webinar, we provided answers to several questions asked by attendees.
As we finish drafting PFC's response, reflecting our network members' perspectives, ahead of the January 31 deadline to provide feedback to the government, here are few valuable resources to help guide you in this matter.
What you need to know about
new disbursement quotaWith Bill C-32 now being law and in force, since December 15, 2022, all charities have until the end of 2024 to meet the new disbursement rate. PFC will continue accompanying members throughout this transition, supplying timely thought-leadership and resources, and promoting for good public policy. Among other aspects, PFC will continue to advocate for a periodic review of the disbursement quota and will be involved in consultations to help inform the government on the issue and ensure it is grounded in the experiences of the sector Stay tuned for updates to our grantmaking guide, co-authored with Community Foundations of Canada, and other peer learning events and resources which are planned for 2023 to help ensure our network understands this new policy framework.
Warm welcome to Aviv, our new Director,
Member Engagement & CommunicationsOn January 16th, our newest teammate, Aviv Milgram, who will be leading PFC's newly integrated member engagement and communications strategies and activities, began her intensive on-boarding process with great enthusiasm. Coming from a background in both the philanthropic and non-profit sectors, Aviv’s experiences range from grants management and operations to directing strategic initiatives and stakeholder engagement. Her involvement has spanned from national philanthropy addressing community resilience, Indigenous Reconciliation, and climate change,
to local Montreal-based arts, culture, and heritage work in the museum sphere. Join us in welcoming Aviv by introducing yourself and letting her how we can support strengthening the ties between your organization, PFC, and all the other members of our growing network.
