This week construction continued across the Marlborough Roads Recovery network in the Awatere, French Pass, Kenepuru, Tennyson Inlet, Port Underwood and Waihopai Valley. Construction closures are in place on Kenepuru, Awatere Valley, Northbank and Tennyson Inlet roads. There will be no recovery works or construction closures over Anzac weekend, with the exception of Northbank, where work will stop at 12pm on Friday 24 April. Work will resume as scheduled on Tuesday 28 April. --------------------------------------------------- Progress continues at two sites on Awatere Valley Road for:
In the French Pass work is near completing on Ronga Road. Work continues on Croisilles and Croisilles-French Pass roads. Crews have established at a new site on Te Towaka-Port Ligar Road in Hamilton Bay to install a new culvert. In Tennyson Inlet on Archers Road, crews have cleared an over slip that occurred as a result of last weekend's weather and are planning to complete roading sealing on Friday 17 April. In the Kenepuru, between Linkwater and the Heads, construction is currently underway at:
Two closures are in place on Kenepuru Road, one between the Mahau intersection and Portage Bay, and another between Nikau Cove and the Heads. Approximately 17km from the start of Northbank Road culverts are being installed under a road closure. On Queen Charlotte Drive crews have completed works at two sites, one above Moenui Road and the other near the Grove Jetty. Approximately 23km from the start of Waihopai Valley Road crews are continuing drainage improvements. All work is subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Road Closure Updates |

Northbank Road - extension The construction closure in place on Northbank Road approximately 17km from the start of the road, has been extended by four working days from Tuesday 28 April until Friday 1 May. The same timings for the closure apply:
The closure extension is required after additional inspections at the site identified further excavation is required to fully stabilise the slope face. Outside of these times unattended traffic lights will remain in place with delays of up to 5 minutes. -------------------------------------------------- Kenepuru Road closures - timings From Tuesday 28 April all planned construction closures in the Kenepuru will return to extended hours. The existing Kenepuru closure currently in place between Mahau Road and Portage Bay will operate at the below days and times:
The second closure on Kenepuru Road, between Nikau Cove to the Kenepuru Heads Campsite will operate at the below days and times:
Work will be undertaken outside of these days and times, under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. The exact locations of these closures will change as work sites are completed and new sites are established. From early May the closure between Mahau Road and Portage Bay will extend. At this time the western end of the closure (the end closest to Linkwater) will move to start approximately 1.3km beyond Moetapu Bay. Port Underwood Road - Hakahaka Bay From Tuesday 28 April until Friday 29 May construction closures are planned on Port Underwood Road, between Oyster and Hakahaka bays. The closures will be in place on Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 3pm with openings on the hour. Between 7am to 9am and 3pm to 5pm work will progress under stop/go traffic management with up to 15-minute delays. At all other times unattended traffic lights will be in place with minor delays. This closure is needed for construction of a 25-metre railway iron retaining wall with tie backs across the road. Please note the closures are subject to weather conditions which may affect the start and end date. Emergency services will always be accommodated. -------------------------------------------------- Lawrence Road - Kenepuru From Tuesday 28 April until Friday 29 May Lawrence Road will be closed to non-residents on the following days and times:
This closure is needed for drainage improvements, pavement construction and road sealing. Awatere Valley Road |

Work was delayed last week on Awatere Valley Road approximately 8km south of the Upcot Saddle due to wet weather. This week the third and final culvert is being installed, prior to backfilling and constructing precast wingwalls. This site is under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. -------------------------------------------------- Work has started under a road closure at a second site on Awatere Valley Road at Awapiri - approximately 2km north from Jordan River Bridge or 12km south from Hodder River Bridge. This week crews are excavating the road retreat, prior to installing a concrete channel. The closure is in place until late May on the following days and times:
Outside of the closure, traffic lights will be in place from 7am to 9am and 2.30pm to 5pm on weekdays, with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

French Pass |
||

On Ronga Road approximately 11.5km from the SH6 turnoff pavement preparation is nearing completion. Road sealing will occur next week, pending weather and suitable ground conditions. Progress continues on Croisilles Road, approximately 4.2km before the Hope Drive/Wharf Road intersection. Having completed the ground beam, crews are now installing an erosion control mat and pouring the concrete channel. At a second site on Croisilles-French Pass Road, approximately 3.7km before the Elaine Bay Road intersection, crews have completed a road retreat. Road sealing will be completed in the next week, pending weather and suitable ground conditions. This week crews have established on Te Towaka-Port Ligar Road in Hamilton Bay to install a new culvert. All sites in the French Pass are under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes at each site. |

At the start of Kenepuru Road, approximately 1km past the Linkwater turn-off, the installation of a box culvert continues. The week the crew isbackfilling around the culvert and they have also begun work on the culvert inlet. A traffic diversion to the west-side on the down slope of the road remains in place. This site is under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. --------------------------------------------------- Kenepuru Road is closed from the Mahau Road intersection to Portage Bay. This closure is approximately 14km. The closure applies on the following days and times until 12pm on Friday 24 April:
Progress continues this week at multiple work sites within the Kenepuru Road closure between the Mahau Road Intersection and Portage including:
From Monday 20 April drainage improvement work will start at a new site in Te Mahia Bay within this closure. Expect an increase in truck movements until early May. --------------------------------------------------- A second closure on Kenepuru Road closure is now in place until late August, from Nikau Cove to the Kenepuru Heads. The closure applies on the following days and times until 12pm Friday 24 April:
Work will be undertaken outside of these days and times, under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. Traffic management crews will ensure traffic does not get stuck between the two closures on Kenepuru Road. Works currently operating within this closure include drainage improvements, retreat excavation and installation of a retaining wall at seven adjacent sites approximately 1.5km prior to Sandy Bay. --------------------------------------------------- From Tuesday 28 April until Friday 29 May Lawrence Road will be closed to non-residents for drainage improvement and pavement construction works. Resident-only access will be in place on the following days and times:

Last week sub-soil drainage was installed approximately 3km from the start of the road, and sealing was completed on several sections of the road. Work to backfill a gully approximately 4.3km from the start of the road continues under traffic lights with minor delays. |

The closure in place on Northbank Road, approximately 17km from the start of the road, has been extended by four working days from Tuesday 28 April until Friday 1 May. The same timings for the closure apply:
The closure extension is required after additional inspections at the site identified that further excavation is required to fully stabilise the slope face. Outside of the planned closure, this site continues to operate under traffic lights with delays of up to 5 minutes, due to the risk of rock fall from above the road. This week the crews are progressing the installation of the under-road culverts. -------------------------------------------- Work continues on the replacement of Gillespies Bridge on Cat Creek Road. This week the crew has installed gabion baskets to stabilise the bridge abutments. |

Work at two locations on Queen Charlotte Drive is now complete. At the first site, located above Moenui Road, hydroseeding was completed this week, on a cleared overslip. At the second site, near the Grove Jetty, the road has been sealed following the completion of a retaining wall and drainage improvements. Line marking will be completed in the coming weeks, under stop/go traffic management. Crews have currently disestablished from both sites. |

On Archers Road, Tennyson Inlet, approximately 2km from the start of the road, crews have cleared a slip that occurred during last weekend's wet weather. As a result sealing has been delayed, and is now planned for Friday 17 April under stop/go traffic management. -------------------------------------------- Construction closures are in place until mid-July approximately 1.2km from the start Tennyson Inlet Road on the following days and times:
Until Friday 17 April there are additional opening times at 10am and 2pm for queued traffic. Vehicles must be at the closure points at these times to guarantee access through the site. This week crews have commenced excavation for the block wall, removed the existing culvert and installed a temporary water diversion. Outside of these closure times, works may occur under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

Waihopai Valley |
||
|
Drainage repairs continue approximately 27km from the start of Waihopai Valley Road. This week crews are progressing culvert installation and pavement construction. Work is being completed under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 15 minutes. |

Kenepuru Road restrictions |
||
|
Kenepuru Road is open to the public, with overweight and overlength vehicle restrictions in place. Reduced speed limit signage and temporary traffic lights are in place at Portage Heights and approximately 500m beyond Nikau Cove (when travelling from Portage). Both sites have a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Please expect minor delays and follow all traffic management signage. Vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads as follows: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and side roads. To apply for a permit for an over dimension vehicle to travel on Kenepuru Road, email recovery@marlboroughroads.com or call 0800 213 213. There are the following hazards on this section of Kenepuru Road and its side roads including Moetapu Bay Road:
Other recovery roadsPlease be aware that on all roads, works may be in progress and/or traffic management in place. Please expect delays and follow all signage and traffic management.
