Ara Weiti Road - Bridge 3 at the future Link Road 1 connection What's happening in OctoberOctober means the start of earthworks season and an increase in activity across the site. A variety of machinery will be used with dump trucks hauling the material from the cuts (hills) to the fill (valley) areas. State Highway 1 and Ara Weiti Road Earthworks will continue to shape the off-ramp on the western-side of State Highway 1, as well as the cut to fill operation around Ara Weiti and East Coast Roads. Bridge 3 at the Link Road 1 connection is taking shape with the beams being poured this month to allow them to be placed in November. The future SH19 will pass over this bridge when the project is complete. On the 15/16 October, there will be a lane closure southbound on SH1 at night. This is to allow the team to install and connect a CCTV camera under the new overbridge. The drainage team will require a stop/go for 4 days on Ara Weiti Road. More details will be provided to local residents closer to the time. Stillwater The earthworks team will begin excavating beneath the new Duck Creek Road bridge where the future SH19 will pass underneath. Works will also begin on the approach to the Wēiti River bridge as the ground is reshaped and stabilised. Road layout changes will happen on Duck Creek Road as the traffic is moved on to sections of permanent road. Whilst this section has been closed, Auckland Transport has made improvements on 'Turkey Bend' to minimise disruption to the community. The current temporary 24/7 single lane will remain in place to allow construction of the new interchange to continue. The river pylons on the Wēiti River bridge are continuing to grow in height and the bridge diaphragm work has started on the superstructure. The diaphragms play an integral role in distributing loads and enhancing the structural stability of the bridge. River users will notice our pedestrian gangway between the main bridge staging and Pier 4. This creates more efficient access for our team to deliver their work. Whangaparāoa Earth stabilisation continues along the batter slopes as well as installing drainage throughout the site. The realignment of Whangaparāoa Road and the Cedar Terrace intersection continues with placement of preload, removal of the existing retaining wall and reshaping and stabilising the bank. Further along the road there is temporary layout changes by Wiriana Place as the team construct the future Beverley Road intersection. |

Retaining wall and temporary diversion road on Duck Creek Road Duck Creek Road retaining wallEngineering features, such as retaining wall are used to provide stability and resilience to the future highway. The team recently completed the earth retaining wall at the 'bowl' on Duck Creek Road. The wall has been designed to support the road and provide global stability. It is 110 metres long and 14 metres high, with 118 reinforced concrete piles, some 11.5 metres deep into the ground. Some of the challenges during construction included the geology and keeping a safe batter slope whilst ensuring we maintained access along the road in and out of Stillwater. |

Team members at a recent information evening How are we doing? rate our communications and engagement with youEach year we ask the community and our stakeholders to rate our communications and engagement on the project. We use the results from the survey to refine how we work and communicate with you. As we progress with construction, our team continues to focus on providing timely communication to our neighbours living with and experiencing our activities. We also share regular and targeted updates in a range of ways with the wider community to build awareness of our progress. Neighbours can connect with our team to stay informed of the project’s progress and know what to expect from upcoming work. During construction, we work closely with landowners in the immediate area to minimise any impacts and resolve any issues or concerns. We also ensure any potential impacts are communicated in advance. Our team are committed to working with you to get the best outcome for the project, our neighbours and the local community, leaving a positive legacy for future generations. This years survey is open until Monday 3 November, however we welcome ongoing feedback at any time. To take the survey please click here. Read more on our communications strategy here. In addition to providing feedback through the survey, we welcome ongoing feedback on our communication strategy at any time. You can reach us via our project email at omahurangi@nzta.govt.nz or by calling 0800 7365 465. |
