Do good. Feel good.

Dear ,

Last year, we set out to take our work in Lombok beyond rebuilding classrooms and strengthen education from the inside out.

After years of helping communities rebuild safe, earthquake-resistant schools, we knew the next step was to invest in what happens inside those classrooms. We wanted to focus on how students learn, how teachers teach, and how communities support education long after the buildings are complete. That vision became our Community Enrichment programs, delivered in partnership with Good Neighbors Indonesia (GNI). As part of our Block Community, you play a vital role in making these programs possible and are an important part of this story.

Year 2 of the Community Enrichment program has begun and we are thrilled to share the highlights of year one with you, including our achievements and our plans to create an even greater impact.

Year One Program Summary

🌱 Sustainable Schools Initiative

Our Sustainable Schools Initiative is changing how schools handle waste. Through Eco-Literacy classes, composting, gardens, and Plastic Deposit Banks, we give students, teachers, and communities practical skills for a cleaner and more environmentally aware future.

🧒 Child Rights Awareness

Child Rights Awareness Program is transforming how schools protect students. Through monthly workshops on rights and safety, we equip parents, teachers, and students with practical skills to prevent bullying and promote positive behaviour and safer schools.

🎓 Early Marriage Prevention

Early Marriage Prevention helps students support each other. Through peer-to-peer training on early marriage, health, and sanitation, junior high students gain practical skills for safer, healthy choices. Empowering youth reduces early marriage and helps them stay in school.

📚 English Empowerment

English Empowerment improves how teachers develop their skills. Lessons with experienced instructors help English teachers boost fluency and pronunciation. Strengthening teaching equips students with the English skills they need for future opportunities.

Year 1 Wins and Year 2 Goals

Year 1 Highlights

  • Sustainable Schools: Canteens swapped single-use plastics for banana leaves and reusable containers. Students started composting, and families began turning household waste into fertiliser to grow vegetables.

  • Child Rights: Bullying dropped by 40% as students learned about kindness, empathy, and respect, helping to create safer and more supportive school environments.

  • Early Marriage Prevention: Students, teachers, and community leaders opened honest conversations about the importance of education and delaying marriage, empowering girls to stay in school.

  • English Empowerment: Teachers discovered creative tools and interactive methods that made English lessons more fun and engaging, boosting students’ confidence and participation.

Across all programs, collaboration grew between schools, communities, and local government.

Year 2 Improvements

We’re building on the progress made by reaching more schools, deepening community engagement, and aligning with government initiatives for lasting sustainability. This next phase will focus on strengthening the connection between schools, families, and local leaders to ensure that positive change continues long after the programs end.

  • Expanding to 15 schools across North Lombok

  • Creating parent working groups to support programs long-term

  • Aligning with government-led Green School and Child Protection initiatives

  • Training volunteers and teachers to deliver parenting and wellbeing classes

  • Continuing English teacher mentoring with creative, eco-friendly resources

Together, these next steps will help communities lead the way in creating safer, greener, and more empowering schools for every child.

Every story, every milestone, and every classroom reminds us that change is possible when communities, teachers, families, and supporters come together. 💛

Thanks to your support, Lombok’s children are learning, growing, and dreaming bigger than ever before. Your generosity is also helping to continue building safe, resilient Block Schools, giving even more children access to quality education.
