Canterbury Golf News EXCITING ADDITIONS FOR THE 2023/2024 CANTERBURY GOLF SEASON
With the 2023/2024 season approaching Canterbury Golf has been working towards some new additions to the CGI Tour - Order of Merit series as well some additions and changes for the 2024 Canterbury Stroke Play and Match Play. These updates have been introduced based on feedback received in addition to our continued efforts to try and improve the experience and incentive for people to play and enjoy our top-level events throughout the season. Read the full announcement below. CANTEBURY 4BBB CHAMPIONSHIP The annual Canterbury 4BBB Championship was played on the 18th of June at Clearwater Golf. While played in overcast conditions the event was fortunate to avoid the predicted rain with the course holding up well following the downpour of the day earlier. Once again the event and format drew a lot of interest with close to 70 pairs registering for the Championship which led to an eventual strong field with many contenders in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. INTERCLUB - RECENT RESULTS 2023 MEN'S CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONS The annual Men’s Champions of Champions event was played on the 11th of June at Pegasus Golf Club with representatives from 24 different Canterbury Clubs on display. The event offers the opportunity for clubs' Senior, Intermediate, and Junior champions to match up against the other club’s respective winners as well partake in teams events. CANTERBURY NORTH - WOMEN'S INTERCLUB The Final round of the Canterbury North Women's Interclub competition was played at Hawarden on the 19th of June in cool, overcast conditions in what turned out to be a thrilling finish to what had been a very close competition all season. TOBY RICHARDS TROPHY & CRESSWELL CUP The Toby Richards Trophy match between the winner of Metropolitan B and the winner of Patterson Cup, as well as the Cresswell Cup match between the winner of Metropolitan A and the winner of Templeton Cup, were both played at Kaiapoi Golf Club on the 25th of June. RELEASE OF NEW GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE FOR JUNIOR GOLFERS VIDEOAs part of Canterbury Golf's continued efforts to help the next generation of young players learn about our game we have recently created a new educational video following a group of young people's day on the golf course. The purpose of the video is to help young people learn about ways they can have fun, stay safe, and respect the course and other players. Click below to view the video. Our Canterbury Golf Junior Open series continues this month with our next event being held at Hanmer Golf Club, our first Junior Open at the club. This event falls within the school holidays and the day before Matariki Day so one to possibly make a long weekend off! Click HERE for more info and to register. SOUTH ISLAND DEVELOPMENT CAMP As part of Canterbury Golf’s continued efforts to provide further playing opportunities for a wide group of players, this school holidays we organised alongside our other South Island Golf Association colleagues a South Island Development Camp. The camp took place in Timaru over the 3rd-5th of July with 6 Canterbury players involved. The players were provided playing opportunities with/against other development players from Otago, Southland/Central Otago, and Aorangi with rounds at Pleasant Point Golf Club and Timaru Golf Club with the players also receiving wider golf and tournament management education throughout the 3 days.
