Click here Knowledge Exchange newsWelcome to the first Knowledge Exchange (KE) newsletter of 2023. The first quarter of this year has kept us busy! We are happy to share a few highlights from our reports and activities with you. Current ActivitiesPersistent Identifiers (PIDs): Full report now available The report Building the plane as we fly it: the promise of Persistent Identifiers along with seven complementary case studies has now been published. The report examines why PIDs are of vital strategic importance and what can go wrong if the PID implementation process is not properly managed. The accompanying case studies provide further insight into the complex world of PIDs and underpin the recommendations. The report also provides the research community and their supporting governing institutions with an understanding of the complicated and ever changing landscape in which a well-functioning PID infrastructure must grow. The results were presented at the NISO Plus 2023 conference. Understanding a complex publishing landscape In our aim to help the research community understand the various alternative publishing platforms that have emerged over recent years, we produced a scoping paper. Our Alternative Publishing Platforms (APP) group welcomed feedback from various stakeholders including researchers, institutions, funders and publishers. We are now gathering input from open access platform providers so that a taxonomy of the different platforms can be developed. After summer, we hope to provide a toolkit where the data can be used to better understand the various platforms. Read more about this work here. Small Publishers and the Transition to Open Access Following the Landscape study of small journal publishers, open access experts are now exploring the second phase of research which will have a qualitative focus and will centre around small publishers that have not transitioned to open access. Outputs from the second phase will become available on the KE website in the coming months. New!KE webinar - Persistent identifiers in academia: risk and trust We are excited to announce that registration for the inaugural KE webinar is now open! Let us guide you through the complex PID landscape in this compact one hour webinar. Hear directly from experts and consultants on ways to ensure the effective implementation and management of PID systems. Find out more about the risks of an unreliable PID service and learn how to tackle any risk and trust related issues encountered. This is an opportunity to ask the experts questions and gain a further understanding of the PID infrastructure. The webinar is free to attend and will take place on 23 May, 2 – 3pm GMT.
