Fall 2024/Winter 2025 Registration
Class schedule and registration course planning tool will be available in Carleton Central (access by 
logging into Carleton360) on Monday, May 27, 2024. Registration begins for new and returning graduate students on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 based on pre-assigned time tickets. Be sure to visit Step 1 of Registration in Carleton Central to view your registration start time. Your exact time-ticket will be available on Carleton Central approximately one week preceding the registration time period. It is always advisable to register when your time-ticket opens to ensure the best chance of getting the courses you would like; however, registration remains open until the posted deadline. For specific course questions, please refer to your individual department. Registration dates can be found on our Registrar Office’s website. Registration steps are provided in detail here.

Dining Services Options on Campus in Summertime
For the summer term, Dining Services has the following options open and available on campus: 

  • Coffee: Tim Hortons in Nideyinàn, Starbucks in MacOdrum Library and Teraanga Commons, and Bridgehead in the Nicol Building;
  • Subway in Athletics; 

  • Rodney’s Kitchen Food Truck outside of Nideyinàn;

  • The Caf is open for walk-ins: Breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Carleton University Students' Association (CUSA) Food Options in Nideyinàn
Rooster's Coffee House is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closing at 5 on Fridays)
Ollie's Pub & Patio is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Graduate Student Summer Circle
For graduate students aiming to be productive and connected to other graduate students this summer, the Paul Menton Centre Graduate Student Summer Circle is for you! From now until July 15, the group will meet every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Register for the Writing Group through Ventus. Registration is free but required. Questions? Email: Madison Bettle.

May 31, 2024
Last day to withdraw from full summer courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

June 1, 2024

  • Last day to request Formal Examination Accommodation for June examinations to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities.

  • Last day for academic withdrawal from early summer courses.

June 11, 2024
Last day for summative tests or examinations, or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade for early summer courses before the official examination period.

June 18, 2024

  • Last day of early summer classes.

  • Last day for handing in term assignments, subject to any earlier course deadline.

Workshop: Boost Your Visibility with The Conversation

Are you interested in sharing your research with the broader public or in writing opinion pieces to impart ideas? The Department of University Communications invites faculty, instructors, and PhD candidates to attend a virtual workshop to learn more about writing for The Conversation, a unique digital journalism platform designed to boost the visibility of Canada's academic community. 

Registration is open for virtual workshops on May 28 and May 30 at 1 p.m. with The Conversation editor, Scott White.

You may have heard of Ozempic, the “miracle drug” for weight loss, but did you know that it was actually designed as a new treatment to manage diabetes? In Canada, diabetes affects approximately 10 per cent of the general population. Of those cases, 90 per cent have Type 2 diabetes.

This metabolic disorder is characterized by persistent high blood sugar levels, which can be accompanied by secondary health challenges, including a higher risk of stroke and kidney disease.

Ottawa Grad Career Fair

The Ottawa Grad Career Fair will be held on Monday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Shaw Centre (55 Colonel By Drive, Third Floor) to connect recent graduates and early-career alumni with employers who are ready to hire.

Launched in partnership with Algonquin College, the University of Ottawa, and La Cité, this career fair is a great opportunity to kickstart your career. Employers from a variety of industries will be on-site and seeking applicants for positions in diverse fields. Members of Carleton's Career Services team will also be there to provide advice, review resumes, and answer questions.

Larry Kostiuk Seeking Reappointment as Dean of FED

Dr. Larry Kostiuk has stated his intention to seek a second term as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design.

An advisory committee comprised of faculty, staff and students has been formed as part of the renewal process. The Carleton community is invited to submit comments and views via the Provost’s website by end of day on June 5. All comments will be treated in strictest confidence. Note that names and email addresses will not be shared with the advisory committee.

This is an important matter for the university and your input is critical. As the process moves forward, we will continue to provide updates on the Provost’s Executive Search and Renewal website.

 

Earth Sciences Student Receives EDI Student Research Award

Martina is a second-year master’s student in Earth Sciences who is collaborating with Prof. Hanika Rizo on her research project titled, “Considering visible and invisible disabilities in the field: Adapting to improve experiential learning for everyone.”

Martina will be conducting research to identify barriers to accessibility for students with visible and invisible disabilities during fieldwork. "I aim to interview students with disabilities who have conducted field work in a variety of different climates. Their insights will inform recommendations on accommodations to enhance field experiences."

“Martina is one of our brightest MSc students in the Department of Earth Sciences,” said Rizo. “Through Martina’s project, we aim to effect meaningful change for any Carleton student who requires field courses as part of their program.”

 
 

Awards and Funding Info

CIHR 2024 Info Session for Trainees and Postdoctoral Researchers in Health Research
CIHR will be offering MS Teams Q&A sessions to trainees, postdoctoral researchers and institution staff regarding award programs they offer. They will provide a brief overview of programs but majority of the session will be spent answering participant questions. Full details can be found on the CIHR website.

Ravens Capture 2024 FISU America 3X3 Championship!

The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team is the 2024 FISU America 3x3 Champions. The Ravens earned a berth in the 2024 FISU University World Cup in Xiamen, China this November with a thrilling overtime defeat of the defending world champions.
