Future Fuels Fund off and racing

The Future Fuels Fund aims to address barriers to the roll out of new vehicle technologies. The first round of the Fund is open for applications and will see $16.5m made available to fund battery electric vehicle public fast charging infrastructure in capital cities and regional centres.

Lessons from the Jolt EV charging network

EV charging specialists, JOLT Charge, have begun work on their project to develop and install 21 charging units across Adelaide, which will test a model for advertising-supported charging in Australia. The project is in the early stages and has just completed product and software development for the combined charger and advertising unit, and the first unit has been installed.

Chargefox pens practical site selection guide

Chargefox has developed a site selection guide based on their experiences from building 21 ultra-rapid EV charging sites along major driving routes between Brisbane and Adelaide along the coast of Eastern Australia, and in and around Perth in Western Australia.

The Electric Vehicle Data Availability Taskforce under the Distributed Energy Integration Program has been working to identify the types of EV-related data of most value to the energy sector.

New to the Knowledge Bank this month

DER

  • The latest report from the SA Power Networks Advanced VPP Grid Integration Project analyses the network constraint management mechanism implemented in the trial and presents research findings regarding the potential to increase DER exports in the LV network.
  • This University of Melbourne report presents a cost comparison of potential solutions that can be used by DNSPs to increase residential PV hosting capacity in the low-voltage network.
  • AEMO’s Knowledge Sharing report provides an update on the Virtual Power Plant Demonstrations, including VPP performance and consumer insights, and regulatory barriers to VPP market participation.
  • United Energy’s final report summarises the lessons and successes from the Distribution Demand Response project, including the test results of the 8th AEMO demand response test conducted in May 2020.
  • EnergyLab’s latest report presents the lessons learnt during the first six months of the Clean Energy Startup Support Programs, which is helping to accelerate the progress of clean energy startups deploy renewable energy and complementary technologies.

Large Scale

  • Presentations and reports on Electranet’s Energy Storage for Commercial Renewable Integration (ESCRI) large-scale battery energy storage system project has recently had a number of presentations and reports published on the ESCRI Knowledge Sharing website. There are some exciting developments including operation reports and a presentation on grid forming operations.
  • Diffuse Energy’s presentation at the recent Small Wind Conference explores the challenges with micro-wind turbine control, including the ability to maintain the turbine at peak performance and endurance of the turbines during storm events.
  • Six Short Term Forecasting projects have new Lessons Learnt Reports published, which outline the key commercial, technical and logistical learnings on demonstrating solar and wind forecasting services across the National Electricity Market.
  • Powerlink’s assessment of the effectiveness of a centralised synchronous condenser approach explores the effectiveness of different approaches to using synchronous condensers to mitigate system strength using detailed PSCAD analysis in a specific real world situation.
