Judges Under Siege: Threats, Disinformation, and the Decline of Public Trust in the Judiciary

Judges in the United States — but also around the world — are facing an alarming rise in threats, from physical violence to cyberattacks. Unwarranted and unfounded attacks erode both judges’ personal security and safety as well as public trust in the judiciary.

This edition of Judicature International highlights a conversation among judicial and legal leaders from the print edition about the growing crisis. As a complement to the feature, Judicature's editors also wrote a brief explainer article for the Bolch Judicial Institute's website to identify key threats to the judiciary and proposed solutions.

Lastly, the Bolch Judicial Institute of Duke Law School is in the process of developing more content and programming for its Defending the Judiciary initiative. If you are interested in learning more, visit judicialstudies.duke.edu/defending.
