Sunday 20th August 9.30-11am - Coast Care Dune Planting - Port Ōhope Come and help Coast Care restore and protect our precious sand dunes! Be prepared to have plenty of fun digging and planting while giving back to papatūānuku. They will be planting in the dunes around Harbour Road, Ōhope Beach. Bring along your friends and family, covered sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for gardening! Meet at 462 Harbour Road, Ōhope. Look for the Coast Care flag. Sunday 20th August 1pm - VCC Daffodil Rally for Cancer It's the Vintage Car Club's National Day and across New Zealand, hundreds of vehicles will be on the road or on display to raise money for your local Cancer Society. Everyone Welcome- No matter what kind of vehicle you drive. Meet at The Hub, SH30, Whakatane 1pm for a car display and short ‘run’ around Whakatane starting and ending at The Hub. Sunday 20th August 10am-2pm - Artist Floor Talks and Kauae Tehe/Chin Moko Demonstration Enjoy talks from several artists showing works in the Ngā māreikura a Matariki, whakaniko ki Ngāti Awa exhibition, including Dame Robin White, Maria Elliot and Ronn Kupa. This is also a chance to witness a very special moko offering by Ronn Kupa, where a kaiwhiwhi (supported by her whānau) will receive her kauae tehe in the gallery.
