Rural Leaders

Hi there,

Welcome to this edition of the Rural Leader. We hope you like its new look. It’s less a reno, more a quick sweep.

This month saw the graduation of the HortNZ Leadership Programme. Nineteen growers have gone back to their industry as more capable leaders.

Delivered by Rural Leaders, the programme ran across eight in-person days in Auckland and Wellington. It gave participants ‘ready to use’ leadership and business skills. The next programme runs in 2025.

Applications are open for the Value Chain Innovation Programme until 17 November. We share field notes from the last immersion tour.

In our Ideas That Grow podcast, Jack Cocks, 2021 Kellogg Scholar, shares the three things all resilient and thriving farmers have in common.

We share a three-part podcast from the authors of the Rural Leaders, Food and Fibre CoVE report ‘A Path to Realising the Potential in Aotearoa NZ’s Food and Fibre Sector’.

Kellogg Programme Two 2024’s final phase begins 24 November. The twenty-five participants will graduate but not before presenting their reports. These will be made available on our website in early December.

The selection of the 2025 Nuffield Scholarship recipients is complete. The winners will be announced in Wellington on 5 November at an Awards Evening in Parliament. Look out for our public announcement after the Awards.

And Alumni in the Spotlight features Ben Todhunter (2006 Nuffield), Jen Corkran (2023 Kellogg), and Paul Crick (2015 Kellogg).

We also share some news from our partners and industry.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the Rural Leader.

The Team at Rural Leaders.
