Having worked in various cancer care roles over the last 10 years, Dr Le has had the opportunity to size up the current state of cancer care in BC, and identified gaps. This inspired him to become a part of the Health System Redesign Project, which leads to improve cancer care for BC Patients. News and storiesFifty physicians from across the province gathered virtually to discuss the ongoing issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in medicine at the Specialist Services Committee’s (SSC) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Elusive Dream or Achievable Reality workshop. An investment in training gives physician leaders the skills and confidence to manage, lead teams and collaborate with partners – which ultimately contributes to and impacts health system change. Through the SSC, physicians discover, explore, and expand their personal leadership abilities and individual paths, while helping to improve the health care environment for patients and providers. The SSC improves patient care by engaging physicians to collaborate, lead quality improvement and deliver quality services with SSC supports and incentives across the province. To illustrate the breadth of SSC physician engagement across the province, our team analyzed physician participation in SSC-funded activities. This analysis, displayed as an infographic, highlights the number of physicians engaged per health authority and per initiative, as well as how many of these went on to hold leadership roles within their respective health authorities. The data relating to the Facility Engagement Initiative only includes the physicians participating in Medical Staff Association executive roles, and does not include the broader number of physicians engaged in the Facility Engagement initiative through the various local MSAs. This snapshot showcases how the SSC is supporting physicians to improve and apply their quality improvement and leadership skills in order to make a positive impact on the health system. SSC Committee Welcome and FarewellsThe Specialist Services Committee welcomed new representatives Dr Paul Johar (FHA) and Kevin Samra (MoH), and thanked departing members Dr Dayan Muthayan (FHA) and Dr Peter Gajecki (Doctors of BC) for their valuable contributions to the Committee.
