Project update

Watch this space

We're getting close to completing the Ngauranga to Petone (Ngā Ūranga ki Pito One) section of Te Ara Tupua but there is some work still to do.

We hope to announce an opening date very soon. Be the first to find out when you'll be able to walk and ride the path by following NZ Transport Agency on Facebook and subscribing to our project updates.

In the meantime, see what we’ve been up to and what’s coming up in the update below or watch this video.

Construction update

We’re pleased to share that construction on the new path continues to move ahead at pace.

Shared user bridge

Over the Easter weekend, our team made use of the KiwiRail line closures to install some of the acrylic panelling on the bridge. This and other work on the bridge safety railings is ongoing. All balusters have now been installed.

Work is ongoing to connect the path on either side of the shared user bridge

Pavement

We've had a busy few weeks on site with pavement work and line marking progressing well.

At the north of the project, beyond the Petone Interchange overpass, our team have been working to connect the Ngauranga to Petone and previously completed Petone to Melling sections together.

Work is also ongoing where the southern section of the path meets the existing path under the Ngauranga Gorge overpass.

There are also improvements being made to the shared path on the Hutt Road near the Jarden Mile intersection. This is being led by the Wellington Transport Alliance, on behalf of Wellington City Council. It involves surfacing and widening the corner near where Te Ara Tupua will join once open.

Ūranga/Honiana Te Puni Reserve

At each of the ūranga, all of the lighting and pavement has been installed. We're now working on adding the bike racks and seating.

In Honiana Te Puni Reserve, we're finishing the last of the planting and grassed areas.

We've also been testing the lighting in these areas and it's looking good.

Fencing/other utilities

Fencing along the main part of the path is ongoing with some mesh left to be installed. We've finished the access gates for KiwiRail. CCTV poles and cameras are also up.

People of the project

Usama is one of many long standing individuals who've played an instrumental role in the success of the Alliance. As the project has evolved, so too has Usama’s contribution.

In the early stages, Usama worked as a Project Engineer overseeing seawall construction at the southern end of the project. Following the successful delivery of this work, Usama transitioned into a Discipline Lead role, supporting the delivery of revetments, culverts, and Xbloc® across the site.

A key highlights has been translating complex design concepts into practical, on site solutions in a demanding construction environment.

A big shout out to Usama who, after three years on the project heads off to new challenges. Over the last few months he was overseeing pavements, line marking, and wayfinding, which are now being delivered.
