2. Full steam ahead with road construction

Construction is changing this year. Bulk earthworks will be completed in April, and bridge building has entered its final phase, so the focus has shifted to an intensive period of road pavement construction. The video below shows our roading crew cement stabilising the first layer of the road pavement near Gordonton Road. They have completed roughly half the first layer across the 22km length of expressway.

3. Flying the new link road

The foundation for the new link road between Birchwood Lane and Cherry Lane is now complete. This will link the eastern and western communities in Tamahere. Two large culverts have been installed on the East West Gully floor and 50,000 cubic metres of fill placed and compacted on top. We flew a drone from Birchwood Lane to Cherry Lane to show you the new link road route.

4. Pouring the concrete deck

Here’s a time-lapse video showing the concrete deck pour at the Cambridge Road Bridge near SH1 at Tamahere. This on-ramp bridge will carry traffic heading south from Hamilton across the four-lane expressway and onto the expressway to Cambridge. This concrete pour began at 4am on 14 February. Video quality was affected by the foggy pre-dawn conditions.
