Night work on QEII Drive

Monday night 24 February and Tuesday night 25 February, we will be using Stop/Go traffic management on QEII Drive to lift and place the barriers on the new QEII Bridge. Traffic in both directions on QEII Drive will be stopped for up to 15 minutes. Please expect delays, and if you can, avoid the area during the night works.

Tuesday night 3 March, QEII Drive will be fully closed between Main North Road and Hills Road/Innes Road roundabout so we can pour concrete to stitch the barriers and the bridge together. There will also be no access to and from QEII Drive at Winters Road, Grimseys Road and Philpotts Road. The night work starts at 9pm till 6am the next morning.

The QEII shared cycle/pedestrian path will remain open.

Wet weather may extend this work by one or two nights.

More info on access is here.

Cranford Street night work

Nightly from Sunday evening 23 February till Friday morning 28 February, we will be installing the new traffic signals on all corners of the Cranford Street and Innes Road intersection and remove the old street light poles and signals.

Traffic on the Cranford Street and Innes Road intersection will shift lanes each night. You will still be able to turn left and right into Cranford Street from Innes Road and vice versa, but all traffic will be on the straight through lanes, so indicate your intention to turn nice and early.

On Thursday night 27 February all the traffic lights will be out and the intersection will function as a roundabout: you must give way to all traffic that will cross your path from your right.

The asphalting work on Cranford Street between Placemakers and south of Knowles Street is now finished. We hope to have traffic back on both sides of the road again by Friday when line marking and other finishing work is completed.

SH1 Waimakariri Bridge Update

On Sunday night 23 February and Monday night 24 February, we are installing ducts on SH1 southbound between Hellers Meats and the Tram Road On-ramp.  To do this work we need to close the southbound left lane from 7pm to 5.30am each night.  The on-ramp will not be affected.

On Tuesday night 25 February just south of the Waimakariri Bridge southbound, we will be closing the left lane from 7pm to 5.30am.

We are now also digging out the approaches for the new bridge lanes north of the Waimakariri Bridge till early March. To do this work the right-hand lanes northbound and southbound are closed every night (Sunday to Thursday) from 7pm till 5.30am.

A 60km/h speed limit will be in place at night. Please expect delays due to lane closures in both directions.

Southbound traffic will now move onto Cranford Street roundabout tonight

Traffic on Cranford Street will now move onto the new southbound roundabout lane tonight. Northbound traffic is scheduled to make this move on Sunday night 23 February.  This is a small but exciting milestone for our project.

The best option for cyclists is to use the shared path on the northbound side of the road.

There will be a temporary 30km/h speed limit in place.

Reminder - From yesterday the QEII Drive shared cycle path is closed - Detour info below

From yesterday until late April, the QEII Drive shared path between Philpotts Road and Innes Road roundabout is closed so we can build the new shared path. A signposted diversion is in place using Innes Road or Hills Road, E Ellington Drive and the Buller’s Stream Walkway.

The Hills Road subway will stay open as normal and we will provide extra street lighting along Buller’s Stream Walkway.

A map of the diversion is below and on our website flyer.
