Construction look ahead: 29 April

Nightworks

Four nights of nightworks commence on Monday 29 April to install steel barriers along the SH1 road shoulder to provide a safe area for our project team to work behind.

Centre line safe hit posts will also be installed at night which, along with a 50km/hr speed limit, will improve safety through the project area.

Works are programmed for 6.30pm-6.30am each night, weather dependent. State highway traffic will be down to one lane with stop/go control and a 30km/hr speed limit through the work area each night.

Lowering the speed limit on SH1 between Toetoe Rd and Maungakaramea Rd

This week we will be lowering the speed limit to 80km/hr between Toetoe Road and Maungakaramea Road for the duration of construction. This will make it safer for drivers to transition in and out of the 50km/hr construction area between Loop Road (North) and Portland Road.

Vegetation clearance

Tree felling is programmed on Loop Road (North) this week, as well as at the Portland Road intersection. Please note that machinery will be accessing the driveway at 10 Portland Road.

Truck movements

Metal and clay will be being delivered from Wilson Earthmoving (Loop Road North) to the site office on SH1.

Walking and cycling

Installation of temporary steel roadside barriers and centre safe hit posts mean the road shoulder on SH1 will be reduced to 0.5m and operational traffic lane width to 3m. For your safety, we encourage you to walk and/or cycle on Loop Road instead of SH1 during construction. If you have specific transport or access needs we recommend you contact us as soon as possible so we can find a solution to keep you safe.

Month ahead
Preloading of earth is programmed alongside both the Loop Road (North) and Portland Road interections, after which works will stop for six months to allow settlement.

We will also be widening the corner on Loop Road between Otaika Valley Road and SH1, in order to to build a temporary haul road alongside this section of SH15.
