Heading towards the finishing line

With the structure of the bridge complete, we’re busy working on the ‘finishing’ touches including installing the balustrade, handrail and lighting, laying the anti-slip coating on the deck surface and completing the bridge abutments which features timber decking, seats, a raingarden and native plants.

We know locals are keen to know when the bridge will open so we hope to share an opening date in our next e news so you can mark it in your calendar!

The above renders show both the range of colours from blue to yellow that the arch can be lit as well as how the deck will be lit.

A new architectural feature at night

Lights on the arch, deck and piers of the new bridge will not only increase visibility and extend the hours of safe use but also create a striking architectural feature in the Manukau Harbour long after the sun has set.

While the white lights on the balustrade will throw light in towards the deck of the bridge so that people travelling across it at night can see where they are going, the lights on the arch and piers will illuminate the bridge within the harbour. These lights will also be able to change colour and intensity. Work on installing the lights has begun and will take several weeks to complete.

Planned road and boat ramp closure

Plan ahead: Coronation Road and local boat ramp closure

As we move closer to the opening of the new bridge, we need to undertake work to reinstate Coronation Road between Waterfront Reserve and the public boat ramp to its original condition.

This means we need to repair the kerbs and fill any potholes on the road as well as reinstate the pedestrian crossing and light poles which were removed when construction began.

So that we can complete this work, the public boat ramp at the end of Coronation Road will be closed from Monday 18 July until the afternoon of Sunday 24 July.

We know that people may not be planning a trip on their boat this far in advance, so we’ll also install a digital sign in the local area a week prior as a reminder. Thanks for your patience as we carry out this important work.
