Mission Project: Packs of Love for Ukraine

SCARCE is collecting TINY items to put in small backpacks for refugee children from the Ukraine who have been separated from their parents and are now in Poland. St. Matthew is happy to participate in this project. Donations can be placed in the box in the narthex through Sunday, October 23rd. Items must be new and nothing that requires them to read English.

Some suggested items:
Teenie Beanies (these may not be new, but basically unused and clean) or any other very small stuffed animals, small travel checker games, 8-pack crayons, small (short) boxes of colored pencils, small packages of tissue, small coloring books without words or few words, little tablets, and any other small items that would provide entertainment for the children. SMALL is the key.

Any questions, contact Patti Woods, Dawn Schubert, or Carol Honeywell.

Stewardship 2023: Vision for the Future

“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 29:11

It’s that time of year again! The 2023 Stewardship campaign will run during the month of October. There will be a Moment for
Stewardship on October 16th and 23rd. Look for a mailing next week that will include a 2023 pledge card. You can also pledge online.

Commitment Sunday is October 30th.

Guest String Quartet on October 23rd

On Sunday, October 23rd, we are pleased to welcome the Wheaton College Student String Quartet to St. Matthew. The ensemble will be presenting special music for the Prelude and during the service as well. They will even join on some of the congregational music, including a special arrangement of the hymn tune for St. Matthew's 60th anniversary, composed and arranged by our own organist, Brian Dobbelaere. The prelude will start around 9:20. Special thanks to Bernie Tameling for helping to coordinate this musical opportunity.

Service of Remembrance

On Sunday, October 30th, during worship, we will read the names of those from our church who have died in the past year. We hope this will be a service of celebration and healing for those who have suffered a loss and a time once again to give God thanks for the lives of those who have touched our own.
