Cranford/Innes night work 17 and 24 May

On Sunday night 17 May we will be installing the signal loops in the road that let the signal control box know vehicles are waiting at the lights. To do this we need to use a concrete cutter which is noisy.  We will start this work at 7pm and hope to finish by 11pm.  Nearby residents will hear the noise from the machines and the crew working and we apologise for disturbing your evening.  The traffic will be managed with lane shifts.

Sunday night 24 May is now the night for switching on the new signals including the right and left turn arrows. To test and then switch on the signals a small crew needs to turn out all the traffic signals. While this is happening, the intersection will be set up as a roundabout: you must give way to all traffic that will cross your path from your right.

Please take care, and once again thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

DATES CHANGED! - Night work on Tram Road and Tram Road Off-ramp

Nightly from Sunday 24 May to Friday 29 May 8pm to 5am, we will be installing ducts under Tram Road for future traffic signals.

The Tram Road southbound on-ramp will be closed each night and traffic using Tram Road will be managed with stop/go controls. Expect delays of up to five minutes on Tram Road.

Tram Road traffic wanting to access the motorway southbound will need to divert to Main North Road.

During the work there is no right turn from the Tram Road off-ramp. If heading to Kaiapoi please use the Ohoka Road exit.

During this night work there will be a temporary 30km/h speed limit.

REMINDER: This weekend at QEII/Main North Road Intersection

From Friday 15 May till Monday afternoon 18 May, we will be resurfacing the westbound lanes on QEII Drive near the Main North Road intersection.

Throughout this weekend, westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane just before the intersection traffic signals and this may well increase queueing times. If you are travelling in this area, expect delays and please slow down near the work site and take extra care. There will be a temporary 50km/h speed limit in place during our work and once this area is opened to traffic and while the gravel remains loose the speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h.

Over the weekend there will be times when it looks like we are not working but the road is still narrowed - this is when the cement is hardening, which takes one or two days.

We will apply the asphalt layer in about a year, after the chip seal has been worn in.

As this work is weather dependent it could take another day.

REMINDER - Schools are back on Monday so traffic will be busy and there may well be delays. Maybe a good day to bike or walk if you can ;-)

QEII Drive cycle path detour will need to stay in place for a bit longer yet

We hope to have the QEII shared cycle path open again between mid-July and early August. I'm sorry we can't be surer of an exact date.

The Covid-19 shutdown came just at the end of the summer sealing season and while this work can be done in winter and seal applied, on warmer days (over 10 degrees), bad weather can also set us back a few steps as well.
