LETTER

Dear Fantastic Man friend,

Caruso

CORRECT

It’s always our intention to send an issue of Fantastic Man to print without any mistakes, typos or other gaffes printed for eternity. Who wouldn’t want to do that? ■ Years ago, for Fantastic Man no. 13, we even slipped in a jolly “erratum” to draw attention to the fact that this was another spotless installment. Quite a claim! ■ Do we always succeed? No! Take for instance this image from our current issue, by ANGELA HILL and MAKRAM BITAR, of a young man called EDDY wearing…yeah, what exactly? ■ The caption in print fails to mention that his white silk wool tuxedo jacket is by CARUSO, the Italian label designed by MAX KIBARDIN that makes such fabulous evening wear. (Mr. KIBARDIN also sports the best tattoos, but that’s another story.) ■ Happy to set the record straight on CARUSO, and if you’re spotting any other snafus in the issue, please let us know via ‘reply’ on this email. (We used to have an eagle-eyed reader from Canada who would email us every season with a rundown of typos he’d found in the issue – many of which we didn’t agree with, by the way…)

JUERGEN

Opening this weekend, ‘you are invited’, a big JUERGEN TELLER solo exhibition in Greece, inaugurating the Onassis Foundation’s new space in Athens, Onassis Ready.  It runs until 30 December. ■ And just saying, weather in Athens can be such a treat around this time of year! (Above: Men, Alexander Skarsgård and Juergen Teller, Luleå, 2023)

MICHELANGELO
Three.
MICHELANGELO

And just open in Haarlem, at the Teylers Museum, is ‘Michelangelo and Men’, an investigation into the great Italian Renaissance artist’s interest in the male body. ■ The show features lots of MICHELANGELO’s pretty lusty drawings, and even an original marble, Apollo-David, from ca. 1530, above.  (Full disclosure, it also features myself on the audio tour while I muse about MICHELANGELO’s eye for the male buttocks.) A must see, until 25 January 2026.

PRADA MODE

Plus, for those in London at Frieze this weekend, make sure to pop over to PRADA MODE in King’s Cross to take in ELMGREEN & DRAGSET’s new work ‘The Audience’. ■ Part film, part sit-in sculptural installation, top fun. Not all is what it seems… Open from now until 7pm Sunday – with a nice programme of workshops too. Sign up here.

MUSIC

Good news from THE HIDDEN CAMERAS, the Canadian band featuring singer JOEL GIBB of whom we’re already big followers when this magazine launched 20 years ago. JOEL has just made a new album called ‘Bronto’. ■ It’s no longer the “gay church music” that described their sound back then, but a lot more electronic and danceable. It still features the most heavenly melodies ever written, often sung with remarkable vibrato – listen for instance to ‘Undertow’. ■ Out of nostalgia, here’s two of the band’s videos from yesteryear: the deliriously haunting ‘Mississauga Goddam’ and this thrilling performance on the streets of Paris, ‘Boys of Melody’. Yes, fans forever. (The image is from 1-10-2004 when they played in Katwijk, the Netherlands.)
