State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill maintenance closure - 10 nights in MayA reminder that SH2 Remutaka Hill will close for essential maintenance and safety improvements for ten nights in May. These will occur nightly from 9pm-4am. The closure begins at 9pm Sunday 19 May and runs every night until 4am Friday 31 May, excluding Friday and Saturday night. SH2 Remutaka Hill will be fully OPEN between 4am Friday 24 May to 9pm Sunday 26 May. Additional Traffic Please be aware that there will be a significant number of trucks moving through the site during the closure. These will be at various times throughout the night, please remain in your vehicle at the closure point to ensure your safety around these heavy vehicles. Escorted crossings We are able to escort drivers over the hill at certin times during the closure. Bookings can now be made online with NZTA Wellington Transport Alliance using this link: Remutaka Hill Closure Escort Booking Form If you want to cross the hill during the closure you need to book in advance, as follows:
Any issues with the booking, please email customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz The escorted crossings will occur at:
Escorted crossings are available for light vehicles only. To keep our workers safe, heavy vehicles cannot be accommodated. Please be patient - the crossings will be slow for everyone's safety. Numbers are strictly limited and vehicles turning up without a booking risk being turned away or having to wait at the closure point for the next opportunity. If you have a genuine emergency on the night, the Hill Manager will decide how best to help you. Access will be available for 'flashing light' emergency services throughout the closure. We understand the closures may inconvenience some road users and thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out this essential maintenance work. These regular night closures significantly reduce the number of disruptions for road users at other times. Road crews can complete a large amount of work safely during these closures because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic.
