SH35 Have Your Say Update
Kia ora,
Last year in December Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency completed formal consultation on proposed lower speed limits for the townships between Gisborne and Te Puia Springs. At the same time, we informally asked for feedback on what people thought of current speed limits on sections of open road between Gisborne and Te Puia Springs.
We greatly appreciate the feedback the community has shared. We received over 350 submissions and around 150 people attended multiple community drop-in sessions that were held between Wainui Beach and Te Araroa.
Changing speed limits is a legal process and all speed reviews undertaken by Waka Kotahi are developed and delivered in line with the Speed Management Guide and the Setting of Speed Limits Rule. There are numerous steps we need to follow once we have completed the analysis of the consultation submissions, and our technical review. For more information on our speed review process, please visit here for more information.
Now that consultation and engagement has closed, we are carefully analysing the feedback alongside our technical assessments, so that we can make the most informed decision and provide the community with the next steps for speed limits along these sections of SH35.
Thanks again for taking the time to share feedback and make a submission. If you would like to find out more about the review and speed change process, visit our website at www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh35-have-your-say.
