Better Streets Newsletter No. 23  |  February 2024

Hi ,

Around the country, after a flurry of uniform checks, bags being packed and shoes polished, kids are returning to school (and many parents are wearily cheering, 'FINALLY!'.)

In New South Wales, the school year got off to a roaring start with the announcement of the state's $10m Active Travel to School program for local councils. Better Streets is on a mission to encourage 75% of children to walk, cycle, scoot or take public transport to school - in fact, this is the first of our Five Recommendations. Ask your local council how they will make the most of the $10m. If they don't know how, ask us and we can help you! We can't lose this opportunity to build wider footpaths, safer crossings and new street trees that improve children’s safety and their independence, as well as setting up life-long benefits from healthy active-travel habits.

Here's to safer, more active - and more joyful - travel for everyone.
