In New South Wales, the school year got off to a roaring start with the announcement of the state's $10m Active Travel to School program for local councils. Better Streets is on a mission to encourage 75% of children to walk, cycle, scoot or take public transport to school - in fact, this is the first of our Five Recommendations. Ask your local council how they will make the most of the $10m. If they don't know how, ask us and we can help you! We can't lose this opportunity to build wider footpaths, safer crossings and new street trees that improve children’s safety and their independence, as well as setting up life-long benefits from healthy active-travel habits. NATIONAL![]() Safe Active Streets webinar (Austroads and Department of Transport Western Australia) The Department of Transport, WA has been working with the state’s local governments to develop, trial and evaluate ‘safe active streets’ to encourage more people to walk, wheel and ride in their communities. The pilot program adapted local area traffic management treatments to create 30 km/h environments with unique designs created that reflect local community needs. Registration: Webinar: Safe Active Streets Date: Tuesday 19 March, 2024 1-2pm AEDT (online) The Heart Foundation Active Australia Innovation Challenge Grants worth $10,000 - $50,000 for innovative projects to get local communities across Australia more active! These Heart Foundation grants will support new, innovative programs that get more people moving in school, universities or local community groups.
