Young koalas are on the move

It’s koala dispersal time again and many of our vulnerable young joeys are heading out on their own for the first time. They are leaving the safety of mum behind and looking for a home range to call their own.

Dispersing koalas are often small and are sometimes mistaken for lost joeys. You can help them by:

  • keeping your distance and allowing them to move about freely, as long as they are not in immediate danger
  • slowing down while driving and being alert for koala movement, particularly at night
  • creating a koala friendly backyard by confining or restraining your dogs at night, as well as providing pool and fence escapes.

If you see a sick or injured koala, please call the Redlands 24hr Wildlife Rescue Service on 3833 4031.
