Click here Wednesday 3 May 2023 | Rāapa, 3 Haratua 2023 The month of April was a “hyper-drive” month for us here at Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou, with our work and efforts focused on capturing the voice of whānau through our consultation and engagement process whilst we continue to work on our initial Porirua Locality Prototype Plan. The team are currently preparing to present to Te Whatu Ora in May on what we’ve heard from the Porirua community and our approach to continue developing a plan for transformation with the community voice leading the way. This is important as we enter into the next phase of our mahi, where we will start to add some “meat to the bones”. We will have more information out soon on reimagining sessions planned for June 2023. GOVERNANCE GROUP UPDATE Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou Governance Group met in April where they reviewed and provided feedback on the initial Porirua Locality Prototype Plan. The Governance Group were supportive of our findings and direction. A key focus for the Governance Group is to continue to place priority on developing strong community relationships and partnerships to truly achieve positive outcomes for Porirua. ENGAGEMENT UPDATE For the last several weeks, we have spent significant time engaging the Porirua community. The key questions we asked were:
We received extensive feedback from kānohi ki te kānohi and online engagement, as well as from existing documents. In order to present the feedback, we’ve developed themes that highlight the things people from Porirua are most interested in. The Porirua Locality Prototype Themes are:
ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGAGEMENT Community Engagement is an ongoing and primary component of the work to be developed and delivered by Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou. To continue gathering and empowering the voices of our Porirua community, we will be working with a consultancy group called Collaborative Aotearoa, to deliver two half day workshops. Collab Aotearoa is advocating for leaders to Lead with Stories and create space for storytelling to bring the voices of whānau together and harness the Power of Stories for communities. Scheduled for Friday 26th of May 2023, the two half day workshops will be facilitated by New Zealand journalist and mental health advocate Jehan Casinader. The morning workshop will focus on working with leaders from the Porirua community – both formal leaders (based on their employment role) and informal leaders (based on their standing in the community). The afternoon workshop will focus on working with individuals and whānau from the Porirua community. Kai and $150 koha vouchers will be provided for our community participants, as we understand this is time out of your day we are asking for. RANGATAHI KI RUNGA 2023 To celebrate the rangatahi of Porirua, Porirua City Council in partnership with Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira and the NZ Police held Rangatahi Ki Runga 2023 on 20 April 2023. The event included:
Special guests include members of the Wellington Saints basketball team and former All Black TJ Perenara. Our team from Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou were also present at the event to kōrero and connect with rangatahi and all whānau.
