Upcoming road closures

The next phase of the Glenbrook Roundabout project involves completing a new road surface on SH22 and building the tie-in approaches to the roundabout on SH22 and Glenbrook Road. This work is essential for the completion of the roundabout and requires a significant road closure.

Changes to SH22:

From 5 January to 1 March 2022 the northbound lane on SH22 between Puhitahi Hill Rd and the Pukekohe Golf Course will be closed.

Changes to Glenbrook Rd:

From 5 January to 28 March 2022 Glenbrook Rd will be closed in both directions between Charles Rd and the intersection of SH22.

Before deciding on this closure, we looked at a number of different options. This was the best option overall as it allows multiple construction activities to take place at the same time and will reduce overall disruption to the community.

This closure is planned to start in January when traffic volumes are at their lightest on SH22.

Journey travel time may increase by up to 15 minutes when using detour routes. Detour routes will be clearly signposted - please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

We’d like to thank the Franklin community for their ongoing patience and support while we make important safety improvements in the area.

Story

It’s been months in the making but the shape of new roundabout on SH22 is finally visible to the Franklin community on their daily commute.

With steel barriers installed just before lockdown the team returned at Alert Level 3 to tackle the remainder of the work away from the road.

Backfilling of the gully is now complete along with all the drainage and services work. The permanent pond is complete with fencing, planting and an access road.

The sediment retention pond has been disestablished and the eastern side of the storm water drains have been completed.

The subbase on the main road and curbing for the roundabout has been constructed, and the tie in approaches are now taking shape.
