SH1 SH88 Dunedin safety improvements

Project update

25 July 2025

Thanks to everyone who’s already shared their feedback!

We’ve already been in touch about proposed changes to transport around SH1 Cumberland Street and SH88 St Andrew Street to support access to Dunedin’s new hospital. If you haven’t had your say yet, there’s still time - but feedback closes Monday 28 July.

These changes aim to:

  • Make it safer and easier for everyone to reach the hospital
  • Improve connections with the central city
  • Keep SH1 running smoothly and efficiently.

With thousands expected to walk daily between the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient buildings, we’re rethinking how SH88 St Andrew Street works to create a safer, more welcoming space for all - from emergency services to whānau dropping off loved ones.

To have your say just go to the project website, review the proposed changes and fill in the feedback form.
