![]() Redefining Postpartum Care in Primary CareAs Women’s Health Month comes to a close, we’re focused on a critical gap in maternal health: the transition from obstetric to primary care after birth. More than half of pregnancy-related deaths occur in the year postpartum, yet clear standards to guide care during this time are lacking. CQC is working to change that. Through a clinical expert workgroup and health plan roundtables, we’re bringing together providers and payers to define what high-quality, equity-centered postpartum care should look like in primary care settings. This foundational work supports California’s maternal health priorities, including DHCS’ Transforming Maternal Health initiative, and lays the groundwork for stronger, more coordinated care during the postpartum period. We’re grateful to the providers, health plans and other experts helping shape this effort. More to come. Stories of Transformation: Tweedy Medical GroupAt Tweedy Medical Group in Los Angeles, cost barriers often stood between patients and the medications they needed. In response, the clinic launched a nonprofit that helps cover unaffordable copays for Medi-Cal patients through a local pharmacy partnership. The result has been improved blood pressure control, fewer ER visits and stronger patient engagement. Participation in CQC’s Equity and Quality at Independent Practices in LA County (EQuIP-LA) improvement collaborative helped validate and expand these efforts, connecting Tweedy to a broader network of support and new strategies for impact.
