Events are back in the Library!

From next Monday, 7 March, Waverley Library will be back to pre-lockdown operating hours! This means we will be open until 9pm everyday from Monday to Friday.

Our JP Service is resuming on Saturday 12 March, from 10am to 12pm, and we are also welcoming back in-person programming from Monday 14 March.

With engaging and fun programming to cater for all ages, be sure to read about and book in for the events we are hosting in March. To keep up to date on all future programs and events be sure to keep an eye on our eNews, Facebook page and website.

Tech Savvy Seniors: Introduction to the Internet - Part 2

Wednesday 30 March, 10am - 12.15pm, Computer Training Room

Join one of our training sessions to learn how to get online and then build your digital skills. This session expands on what was covered in Part 1 of our Introduction to the Internet workshop. Tech Savvy Seniors NSW is a partnership between the NSW Government, the State Library of NSW and Telstra.

Cassy and Michael Bartolomei Concert

Friday 1 April, 10am - 12pm, Theatrette

Join us for Songs of Nostalgia, a musical celebration of favourite classics from the 40's, 50's and 60s. From Cole Porter to Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Cassy Darvall will sing the hits and will be accompanied by her highly accomplished, jazz pianist husband, Michael Bartolomei. Cassy has been a professional performer for over 30 years singing at major public events.

Memorable Music Moments

Join us for Memorable Music Moments, a special Seniors Week edition of Music Appreciation. Our qualified musicologist will share music and lead a discussion about the music that moves us and why. These sessions are a good opportunity to make friends with other music lovers, learn and have fun!

Film screening: My Generation

Friday 25 March, 11am - 12.30pm Theatrette

Take a trip down memory lane with actor Michael Caine as he reflects back on the music, movies, fashion and art of the 1960's. Featuring archival footage of Swinging London and voiceovers of now iconic celebrities including Paul McCartney, Twiggy and Marianne Faithfull. Morning tea  will be provided.

Library Lovers with Maya Linnell

Wednesday 16 March, 7 - 8 pm, ONLINE

Members of Waverley Library are invited to join a free monthly online event hosted by bestselling Australian author Maya Linnell. Each month Maya Linnell will invite a series of guests onto the program: an author, a lifestyle expert and a local librarian. The first event will have a star-studded line-up including Gardening Australia editor Jenny Baldwin and cookbook guru Sophie Hansen.

Bens Book Club

Tuesday 22 March, 7 pm, The Cane by Maryrose Cuskelly, ONLINE

Waverley Library is pleased to announce the launch of Bens Book Club powered by the Libby app. Members of Waverley library can now read the selected title in Libby, before joining Ben Hobson online each month to meet the author discuss the book. We are pleased to announce that library card holders can now borrow the book chosen for Ben’s Book Club each month with no waiting or holds on the Libby reading app.

Queer Reads Book Club

Hey Squirlfriends! Happy Mardi Gras! Waverley Library is looking to create a fabulous new bookclub and we are calling all members of the local LGBTQI+ community and beyond, who are interested in joining Queer reads. Movies @ the library: Breathe

Enjoy a movie amongst the books at Waverley Library. Robin Cavendish has his whole life ahead of him when he is paralysed by polio while in Africa and given just months to live. Robin’s wife Diana brings him home from hospital where her devotion and witty determination inspire him to lead a long and fulfilled life.

Author Talk: Gabriella Kovak on Georgina: Holocaust Memoirs

Thursday 24 March, 6.30 - 7.30pm, Library Theatrette

December 1944 whilst heavy snows fall over Budapest and soldiers battle for the streets, Georgina a young Jewish woman, is nearly starving to death with her new born son. The battle outside is one of the most savage in the entire war. She knows that to go into the streets is virtually a death sentence. For Georgina there is no choice.

Match Tea Making Workshop

Experience the spirit of Chado (The Japanese Way of Tea), learn about the unique health benefits of tea and mindful living. You will learn about cultivation & production, health benefits and how to make a bowl of tea using traditional tools and techniques. All tea and tools necessary for the experience will be provided on the night. Cost: $15.

Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship

If you’re a Year 10 or Year 11 student studying history this is a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning of the history of Australians at war! The scholarship gives NSW high school history students the opportunity to travel on a study tour to develop their knowledge and understanding of the history of Australians at war. Accompanied by a military historian, the tour includes visits to significant historical sites.
