Tēnā koutou,

This newsletter includes an update on community engagement, utilities investigations, and frequently asked questions to our Mill Road project inbox.

Community engagement | He kōrero mā ngā hāpori

We’ve enjoyed talking to people in person at our drop-in sessions earlier this year and connecting through our Mill Road project inbox. We hope you can make it along to one of our upcoming drop-in sessions in November. You can read more about these below.

Some common questions people are asking about the project are:

  1. What are the next steps for Mill Road Stage1?

We’re working towards submitting through the Fast Track Approvals Act in Q4, 2025 along with continuing property acquisitions.

  2. Where will the road go after Mill Road Stage 2 – Takaanini?

The Notice of Requirement lodged in June 2025 for Mill Road Stage 2- Takaanini section ends at the intersection of Papakura-Clevedon Road and Heard Road. We’ll be starting the Investment Case phase for Stages 2 and 3 of Mill Road in the coming months which will include investigations and progression towards route protection for the remaining Mill Road corridor.

  3. What will happen to the existing Mill Road in Stage 1?

Some of the Mill Road Stage 1 project involves widening the current road and in other sections it will involve creating a new alignment.  After any new sections of new road are built the existing Mill Road will remain as resident access for properties and connected streets, as well as walking and cycling.

Come and visit us at upcoming community drop-in sessions. Speak with members of the project team to learn about the Mill Road project and have your questions answered.

Utilities investigations | Wakamatau whenua

We’re locating underground utilities along the Mill Road Stage 1 project corridor between the SH1 interchange and Hilltop Road, and Hilltop Road to Alfriston Roundabout which will continue for the next 1-2 months.

To do this, we’re using advanced scanning tools that use radar and electromagnetic technology. These tools help us find and map underground utilities such as power cables, gas mains, and water pipes without the need to cut open the road. As these investigations are non-invasive, they also don’t generate high noise levels.

Our crews will be working along Redoubt Road and side roads including:

  • Diorella Drive
  • Hollyford Drive
  • Everglade Drive
  • Santa Monica Place
  • Goodwood Drive
  • Bartells Drive
  • Hilltop Road

Surveys done in the footpaths and berms will occur between 8am-6pm, while works in the road (carriageway) will take place overnight between 9pm-5am.

There may be small delays to journeys overnight with temporary speed limits along the work site and stop/go at the Redoubt Road/Hollyford Drive/Everglade Drive intersection to keep our crew and road users safe. Residents along the corridor will still be able to access driveways, though street parking on side roads may be restricted at times.

We thank you for your patience while we complete this important work. If you have any questions or concerns about these works, please reach out to the project team with the contact details at the bottom of this newsletter.
