Welcome to the Barnet Together Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet (30 June 2022).

As we are half way through the year (yes, already!) in this week's issue I have highlighted some online training opportunities which can do in your own time, and/or pop in your diary to take part in over the next few months.  Barnet Together is also planning some further training opportunities, with our colleagues at Volunteering Barnet having session next week. Look out for more later in the year, or get in touch with suggestions.  The funding highlights this week feature two opportunities for Barnet-based organisations, so do check them out. If nothing's suitable for your project do get in touch, and I can do a search for you.

Mayor of London: Untold Stories Round Two

London’s diversity and rich heritage are one of its most valuable assets. Londoners from all nationalities, faiths and backgrounds call this city ‘home’ and have contributed to making it the greatest city in the world.

However, many of the histories, stories and experiences of Londoners from diverse backgrounds have gone untold and are not represented within our public realm.

The Mayor of London is offering funding and support for communities to make a change in our public spaces. Whether this is creating something new, highlighting something missing or hidden, or presenting a different story to what already exists – the Mayor wants to hear from you.

Funding up to £25,000

Closing date: Wednesday 5 October, 4pm

Training: Ad hoc and Micro Volunteering

Flexibility in volunteering allows for more freedom with tasks and opportunities. That can change depending on availability, skills and circumstances; flexible volunteering moves away from fixed roles and time commitments. It helps to make volunteering more accessible for people to drop into and fit around their existing commitments

In this training session, we will look at how organisations can build more flexibility into their role offering, and engage with volunteers who might be put off by a more structured approach to volunteering.

Event: 1 Sunday Morning, 4 Films: Doing Good In Finchley

1 Sunday Morning, 4 Films: doing good in Finchley reveals the hidden parallel universe of volunteering. Every weekend, residents gather to improve our home, right on our doorsteps, but out of sight. Our films tell the stories of four local charities and their diverse missions:

  • Stephens House - public access to secret gardens
  • GoodGym Barnet - combining good deeds with good health
  • Finchley Way Open Space - improving our green space
  • The Ismaili Community - global community, local volunteering

This 'unique experiment in community filmmaking' celebrates Finchley and its residents: Local filmmakers, veteran mentors, community volunteers and The Phoenix Cinema.

Come along to the Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley for the World Premiere of these and other locally-crafted films!

Tickets £6 with all proceeds go to the charities involved.
