As we are half way through the year (yes, already!) in this week's issue I have highlighted some online training opportunities which can do in your own time, and/or pop in your diary to take part in over the next few months. Barnet Together is also planning some further training opportunities, with our colleagues at Volunteering Barnet having session next week. As part of Crowdfund Barnet you may be eligible for pledge of up to £5,000 (or up to 50% of your target) from Barnet Council. Register your project via this short form with Crowdfund Barnet by Wednesday 28 September. Mayor of London: Untold Stories Round Two London’s diversity and rich heritage are one of its most valuable assets. Londoners from all nationalities, faiths and backgrounds call this city ‘home’ and have contributed to making it the greatest city in the world. However, many of the histories, stories and experiences of Londoners from diverse backgrounds have gone untold and are not represented within our public realm. The Mayor of London is offering funding and support for communities to make a change in our public spaces. Whether this is creating something new, highlighting something missing or hidden, or presenting a different story to what already exists – the Mayor wants to hear from you. Funding up to £25,000 Closing date: Wednesday 5 October, 4pm Look out for information on a Barnet-based organisation that was successful in Round 1. ![]() News, Training, Opportunities and EventsNews: Census 2021 published The population of England and Wales has increased by more than 3.5 million in the 10 years leading up to Census 2021. In 2021, Barnet ranked 17th for total population out of 309 local authority areas in England, moving up one place in a decade. The population size in Barnet has increased by 9.2%, from around 356,400 in 2011 to 389,300 in 2021. This is higher than the overall increase for England (6.6%), where the population grew by nearly 3.5 million to 56,489,800. That can change depending on availability, skills and circumstances; flexible volunteering moves away from fixed roles and time commitments. It helps to make volunteering more accessible for people to drop into and fit around their existing commitments In this training session, we will look at how organisations can build more flexibility into their role offering, and engage with volunteers who might be put off by a more structured approach to volunteering. Every weekend, residents gather to improve our home, right on our doorsteps, but out of sight. Our films tell the stories of four local charities and their diverse missions:
This 'unique experiment in community filmmaking' celebrates Finchley and its residents: Local filmmakers, veteran mentors, community volunteers and The Phoenix Cinema. We operate in the area of Barnet and Camden. In September we will be running a girls group at a pupil referral unit in Barnet and we are looking for a reliable person - who is passionate about making a difference in young people's lives. The sessions will be run weekly during term time and will last one hour, but there will be at least four hours of additional work needed each month to help find speakers and prepare for each session.
Ideally you will be CBT and RBT trained, easily commutable to Barnet or Camden and either have or be prepared to have DBS. Freelance rate £30 per hour, paid monthly in arrears on receipt of invoice. We operate in the area of Barnet and Camden. We will be starting some additional employability sessions in Barnet from September and are looking for an Employability Coach to work as a contractor to help us deliver our sessions on CV and cover letter writing, effective job search and application form filling, as well as helping attendees with interview skills. The work will involve running weekly sessions and collecting attendance and reporting data. All training and materials
