Bee the change: simple actions to help protect our bees

As we approach World Bee Day on Saturday 20 May, it's time to take a moment to appreciate the incredible diversity of bees in Australia.

With 2000 species, from the tiniest 2mm quasihesma bee to the majestic and colourful carpenter bee, our bees come in many shapes and sizes.

Let's not forget the stunning blue-banded bee (pictured), a local favourite whose captivating appearance steals hearts all over Redlands Coast.

It's important to remember that bees play a vital role in pollinating plants, which in turn produce food that sustains human life.

Let's show our gratitude and support for these wonderful creatures by making every day World Bee Day.

Here are some easy ways to help native bees:

  • Set up water stations around your yard to keep bees hydrated.
  • Build a bee hotel to offer shelter to solitary bees.
  • Avoid using pesticides that can be harmful to bees and other beneficial insects.
  • Plant a variety of native plants to provide bees with a diverse range of nectar and pollen sources throughout the year.

If you want to make a difference and bee-utify your backyard, we have plenty of bee-loving plants available for only $3.00 each at our Native Nursery.

The Native Nursery is open 10am to 3pm on weekdays and 9am to 12 noon, on the first Saturday of every month (except January).

Celebrate World Bee Day by appreciating the incredible bee-nefits these insects bring to our gardens and our lives.
