Clearing ground for site offices at Puketona Junction, July 2020

Traffic flow at Puketona a vital concern

Work on improving safety at the Puketona Junction intersection of SH10 and SH11 is picking up pace. We've installed site offices, set up amenities for our crew and made other preparations for construction of a roundabout.

We are aware the emergency closure of SH1 in the Mangamuka Gorge has resulted in increased traffic on SH10 and travel delays across the highway network at peak travel times.

We are doing our best to ensure traffic can keep moving through our site by installing temporary steel safety barriers and re-painting road markings. The barriers will create a safe area for our crew and provide a safe distance between construction activities and road users. Once the barriers are in place we will be able get on with constructing the roundabout without restricting traffic flow.

If you have any concerns or queries about upcoming works, please call Mel Norris from Fulton Hogan on 0800 577 623.

Road users can also contact Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency at any time on 0800 44 44 49.

Car park at Kawakawa intersection to be closed

Construction will shortly ramp up at the Kawakawa intersection of SH1 and SH11. We will be setting up a site office and other amenities in the Johnson Park car parking area.

Over the next four weeks as we establish our site, we will be fencing off the car park area. This will keep our work area and heavy machinery safely separated from the public while we are constructing the new intersection. Parking will still be available on nearby Railway Road.

Our first phase will involve building a retaining wall along the hillside above the intersection. To allow our crew to work without restricting traffic flow we'll be re-painting road markings on SH1 and SH11 and installing temporary steel safety barriers.

If you have any concerns or queries about upcoming works, please call Mel Norris from Fulton Hogan on 0800 577 623.
