Celebrating Our Humbelievable Teams At The 2025 Staff AwardsOn Friday 28 November 2025, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust held our annual Staff Celebration Event to celebrate the fantastic and innovative work of our teams and staff. The event is the culmination of staff nominating each other and a rigorous shortlisting process, where members of EMT and the Board choose the finalists from a long list of exceptional candidates. This year’s glittering event, hosted by Blair Jacobs, was held at the Mercure Grange Park Hotel in Willerby, and was supported by generous sponsors including Trust Charity Health Stars. Sarah Rockliff Appointed As Associate Director Of Psychological ProfessionsThe Trust is very pleased to announce that Sarah Rockliff has been appointed as Associate Director of Psychological Professions and will take up the post officially from 1st January 2026. This appointment follows a rigorous and competitive selection process, during which Sarah distinguished herself among a strong group of candidates. Recognising The Volunteers Who Go The Extra MileHumber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is proudly supported by a team of volunteers who give their time to support staff and patients across a wide range of health care services. These volunteers were recognised for their contributions at the Trust’s Volunteer Awards event held in Willerby this November. This was the first event of its kind and stepped on the shoulders of the Trust’s annual Staff Awards, which have always included a volunteer category. In 2025 the decision was made to create a wider event celebrating the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who give up their time for the benefit of patients. Organisers shared that there were too many inspiring individuals supporting the Trust to choose only one for an award, so the Volunteer Awards were created. Trust Christmas Trees In Beverley MinsterThis year Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s East Riding 0-19 team are hosting a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree at the annual Beverley Minster Christmas Tree Festival. Each December, Beverley Minster opens its doors to visitors showcasing trees decorated by multiple organisations and people. This year’s festival is showcasing over 150 beautifully decorated trees and is open until 14th December for visitors to view the collection. Carols Round the Christmas TreeThis December the Trust’s annual Carol Service went on the road and visited several services and sites to spread the joy even further than usual. And those services and staff who couldn’t be visited were able to watch and join in online, plus they all received a hamper to enjoy. Please can you tell us what led you to become a governor? I’ve always been interested in health, and my GP suggested that I apply. The idea of being a governor sounded challenging, but the application form said, “no experience required,” which encouraged me to give it a try. When did you become a governor?. I applied in November 2024 and I’m now coming to the end of my first year as a Public Governor for Hull. What experiences did you have that best prepared you for this role? I was a teacher, so I have experience working in a public institution and some understanding of how decisions are made. I’ve also supported family members through difficult times and completed art therapy training, which gave me insight into mental health settings. What do you see as the most important responsibilities of a governor? I see the role as being a conduit for feedback between the public and the Trust. A governor should listen and, when needed, act as a critical friend. At first, much of the business went over my head, but gradually I began to understand the structures and roles and felt able to contribute. Sometimes, asking simple questions has highlighted issues that needed closer attention and I’ve learned that’s exactly the point of the role - to ask questions. What do you enjoy most about being a governor? The time commitment is flexible and depends on how involved you want to be. On average, I spend about one day a month. Initially, the experience can feel daunting because the Trust is complex, but the Governors are very welcoming and understand that many people start with little knowledge of the organisation. They went out of their way to explain things and make me feel comfortable. Meetings, whether online or at the Trust’s HQ in Willerby, are informative, and the monthly briefings really help explain what’s happening. One of the most enlightening experiences is a Place Visit, where you see how services work in practice. I’d recommend anyone to give it a try. It’s educational, you meet interesting people, and you might even make a difference. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 94.87% of respondents thought they were involved in their care and listened to within our Addictions Services in November.
