We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new chairman, Dr Trevor Nicholls.
Trevor has over 40 years experience building international businesses in the life science industry around translational research, and the commercialisation of breakthrough technologies in the academic, biotech, pharmaceutical and agrotech sectors.
"I am delighted to take on the role as chairman at Fargro. Horticulture faces a very challenging environment at present with increasing fuel costs and climate change. In this situation it is vital that losses of produce to pests and diseases are reduced to increase the efficiency of input usage. The Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition 2023 has been launched!
Anyone under 30 years old on 31st July 2023 can enter the competition. Students, apprentices, and those in the industry can all take advantage of this great opportunity to test their horticultural knowledge and network with others. Registration opens on 1st February 2023 and closes on 28th February 2023 at 5pm.
New funding for horticulture automation and robotics
A further £12.5m will be allocated to projects aimed at boosting productivity, reducing labour demand, and improving sustainability in agriculture and horticulture.
The investment is part of Defra's £270 million Farming Innovation Programme, which was launched in October 2021. So far, more than £70m has been spent on industry-led research and development.
