New funding for horticulture automation and robotics A further £12.5m will be allocated to projects aimed at boosting productivity, reducing labour demand, and improving sustainability in agriculture and horticulture. The investment is part of Defra's £270 million Farming Innovation Programme, which was launched in October 2021. So far, more than £70m has been spent on industry-led research and development.
