Works progressing at Portland Road

Widening of the culvert south of Portland Road is now complete and highway widening in this location is progressing towards road sealing later in December.

The highway is being widened at Portland Road to accomodate a right turn bay on SH1 for northbound traffic accessing Portland Road.

Guardrails at the corner of Portland Road will be removed prior to asphalt being laid.

The embankment on the corner of Portland Road will be top soiled in the coming days and then hydroseeded for grass.

Hydroseeding is a mixture of grass seed and hay, which is sprayed onto the top soil from a big hose to cover large areas.

The turning facility under construction at Portland Road is almost ready for road sealing, which will be followed by landscaping early in the new year. The image below shows the turning facility taking shape.

Traffic to shift onto new section of SH1 north of roundabout

Sealing and moving traffic onto the new road at the north end of site was programmed to occur today, however we have to resolve an unexpected technical issue before we can proceed.

Further details will be communicated once we have resolved the pavement issue and have a confirmed timeframe.
