Christmas cheer with Te Puna Kindergarten

Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou - Season’s greetings for Christmas and the New Year!

It was a pleasure to take a hīkoi with tamariki / children from Te Puna Kindergarten last week. It has been awesome to get to know our littlest neighbours to the project - and they were excited to have a look at the big machinery and progress at Te Rangi tua nehe / Minden Gully.

Thanks to the crew for treating them to some Christmas tunes, a visit from Santa Claus and one of the elves, and a special gift to take home. Lots of smiles!

Takitimu North Link Stage One flyover - November 2023

Take a look at this view across the Takitimu North Link project site in Tauranga, in this latest aerial flight with commentary with one of the surveyors on the project, Steph.

This video is travelling from SH29 / Takitimu Drive Toll Road, Tauranga, tracking the 6.8km alignment west to Te Puna, there has been awesome progress as the new four-lane expressway and shared path is built.

We’re now 2 years into construction and keeping everything crossed for a great kiwi summer where we’re targeting 700,000 cubic metres earthworks.

Cambridge Road major works ramp up from January

Major works on the Takitimu North Link project will require a full closure of a section of Moffat Road, Bethlehem, for three months from 9 January 2024 until April 2024.

This will be a significant disruption to travel through this area with local alternative routes for light vehicles and heavy trucks to use State Highway 29/Takitimu Drive Toll Road. A temporary diversion road is now in use.

Further information on the timing of specific road closures and detours will be shared on Journey Planner, VMS boards, and the Waka Kotahi Waikato Bay of Plenty Facebook page, we encourage everyone who travels through this area to look out for updates.

Bethlehem Hall - 18 November

Open Day at Bethlehem a success

We were really pleased to see more than 500 people come along to our Takitimu North Link open day in Bethlehem in November. We shared information about major works in progress at Cambridge Road Overbridge and upcoming traffic management.

People also had the opportunity to chat to the team working on the project, see the design progress, understand the effect on traffic ahead, ask questions, and get a feel for the project once completed.

Sharp Road roundabout construction with centre island curb concreting underway.

On the home stretch at SH2 Lockington / Matahui roads roundabout

It’s been a hive of activity at our State Highway 2 (SH2) Lockington / Matahui roads roundabout site as we near completion and make the most of some very mixed weather conditions. We have now completed the bulk of the work required to make this roundabout operational, with the exception of a few minor tasks. The second coat chipsealing, required to enhance waterproofing of the pavements, will be completed once weather conditions settle.

This is the third of six intersection improvements to be constructed in this phase of the Waihī to Ōmokoroa project.

We want to take a moment to give a big shout out to all those who travelled through the site during that time and gave our workers on the ground a wave, and a smile. It is small gestures like this that make our day!

Work at the fourth roundabout at Sharp Road intersection continues with completion expected by mid-2024. Intersection crashes are the cause of one in four deaths and serious injuries on this section of SH2, and roundabouts and flexible median barrier will significantly reduce the risk of crashes by making it easier for traffic from side roads to access the highway. Roundabouts are being built ahead of the installation of 14km flexible median barrier between Katikati and Ōmokoroa, making SH2 safer for everyone.
