Funding for Construction Announced
Exciting news for Brougham Street today, the Prime Minister and Minister of Transport confirmed that funding will now be provided by the Crown to NZTA to deliver the Brougham Street Upgrade project as a Road of Regional Significance. This will allow construction to begin by mid-2025, starting with the overbridge over Brougham Street at the Collins Street and Simeon Street intersections. The overbridge should be completed in about two years, and the wider improvements will start when some additional land needed has been purchased and consenting is finished.
The Brougham Street project team is delighted to be getting on with this project that will make a difference to safety and accessibility in this area.
The intersection upgrades and other interventions along the corridor will improve efficiency and safety as well as making travel times more reliable. While the new overbridge will get more than 1000 people walking, cycling or scooting over Brougham Street safely each day and without having to wait for the signals to change.
We will be in touch again soon when we have more details on the project, engagement with the wider community and what you can expect when work gets underway.
