1. Bus tours attract 2000 visitors

Free bus tours through our project site at the Project Open Day on 16 November attracted 2000 passengers. Convoys of buses were escorted through the site by staff in pilot utes. Other staff provided commentaries on each bus. Most of the bus passengers also dropped in to our Visitors Centre. Click the photo to see the video...

2. Hi-Lab heads south

The first layer of Hi-Lab road pavement rock now extends from Lake Road in the north to Horsham Downs Road – approximately 6.5km. This 65mm rock mixed with fine material will be spread, then cement stabilised over approximately half the project, then the next layer of 40mm rock will be spread on top.

3. Horsham Downs Road re-opens in December

Horsham Downs Road has been closed for more than a year for bridge construction over the expressway. The new bridge will be blessed and Horsham Downs Road reopened on 19 December 2019. This is the last local road bridge to be completed on the project. The photo shows the road tie-ins being constructed.

4. Deck panels placed on bridge

600 deck panels manufactured off-site are being lifted into place on the Mangaonua Stream Bridge. This bridge crosses a deep gully south of Morrinsville Road. Once all the panels are in place, steel reinforcing will be placed and a concrete topping slab poured over the panels to complete the deck. Click the photo to watch the mideo...

5. Carting sand over the highway

Dumptrucks are hauling sand across the East West Link Bridge over SH1 to build the link road to Birchwood Lane. 50,000 cubic metres of sand is required to build the embankment over the East West Gully. Soon, excavators will be digging through the closed section of Cambridge Road north of Cherry Lane, forming the final link for the expressway to travel under the new bridges and into the southern gullies.
