It's vital to be as prepared as possible for fires and other emergencies, so read on for tips that could save your life or your property in an emergency, and links to more information on preparing for bushfires, storms and other major emergencies. ![]() Water supply during a bushfireThe Water Corporation has issued a critical reminder to residents in bushfire prone areas not to rely on public water supply during a bushfire. During a bushfire, extreme demand, fire damage and power cuts can result in poor water pressure or a total loss of water. It's vital that you have your own independent water supply and pumping capability. ![]() Prepare for a stormStorms can occur at any time, often with little warning, so it's wise to prepare and maintain your property year-round. While the dangers of storms cannot be prevented, you can take steps to minimise the risk of damage to your property by flying debris, fallen trees and flooding due to blocked gutters. Prepare your emergency kitsEmergencies can strike at any time, so being prepared year-round is essential. This includes having a current and well-stocked emergency evacuation kit ready. Ensure your emergency kits are prepared and stored in an easily accessible location that everyone in your household is aware of. Know the alerts and warningsThe new Australian Warning System provides clear advice about what to do in response to an emergency or hazard, with three flexible warning levels that change to reflect risk levels. Advice: An incident has started or is de-escalating. There is no immediate danger. Stay up-to-date in case the situation changes. Watch and Act: There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action. Emergency Warning: The highest level of warning. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. ![]() Emergency WA appThe Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) is helping people stay safe during emergencies with the launch of the new Emergency WA app. It provides access to quick, reliable and relevant emergency information, and you can personalise the alerts you want to get. The app was developed through community research and insights from experienced emergency services personnel. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or bookmark emergency.wa.gov.au in your web browser. Subscribe for SMS alertsDid you know the City of Wanneroo offers a complimentary SMS notification service to residents when a Harvest, Hot Works, Vehicle Movement or Total Fire Ban is declared?
