Opening postponed

The Pito-One to Melling section of Te Ara Tupua is mostly complete however with some work still remaining, we need to postpone the opening.

The work remaining is important and we want to make sure we get it right before opening the pathway.

What needs to happen?

At this stage, the two underpasses need to be surfaced as well as a small section near the Dowse Dr interchange.

There is some additional work around the Petone underpass which has been weather dependent as well.

To ensure these areas have the same high-quality surface as the rest of the route, we will be surfacing these areas once the weather improves.

Installation of the cultural designs that are to be incorporated into the two underpasses and walls below the Dowse Interchange also needs to happen.

This is being done now while the cycleway is closed so there are no disruptions for users later on.

We'll also be installing new side barriers on State Highway 2 near the Dowse Dr interchange. This will be done once the surfacing in this area is complete.

What next?

Details about the opening will be shared on the Waka Kotahi Facebook and Twitter pages once we have a confirmed date.

Thank you for your patience as we approach the end of this project. We hope you enjoy being able to get around the Hutt Valley more easily and safely once it opens.
