Dunedin to Christchurch

SH1 Dunedin to the Waitaki River Bridge: Road surface repairs will take place from 3 to 11 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH1 Pine Hill Road, Dunedin: Barrier repairs will take place on 3 and 4 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH1 Palmerston to Waikouaiti Road: Road surface sealing will take place from 5 to 7 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH1 Kakaho Creek near Hampden: Earthworks and drainage work for a road rebuild will take place Monday to Friday until 7 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH1 Alma near Oamaru: Road surface sealing will take place on 4 and 5 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH1 south of Pukeuri: A road rebuild is underway until 19 December, 6 am to 4 pm. Stop/go traffic management, lane shifts, and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit are in place. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
SH1 Waimataitai, Timaru: Watermain renewal is underway from 9 September to 7 November, 7 am to 6 pm. Lane shifts and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit are in place.
SH1 Evans Street / Grants Road intersection,Timaru: Taitarakihi Culvert replacement is underway until 30 November, operating 24 hours a day. Intersection layout changes and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit are in place.
SH1 south of Tinwald, near Longbeach Road intersection: Pavement reconstruction is underway from 3 November to 19 December under daytime lane diversions with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled at short notice. Some sites may be unattended, with temporary speed limits in place.
SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway: Night works will run from 29 October to 18 December, 7 pm to 5 am. Crews are installing 4.6 km of barrier and maintenance bays between Wrights Road and Halswell Junction Road. No delays are expected.
 

 

 

Dunedin to Invercargill

SH1 Dunedin to Balclutha: Road surface repairs will take place from 3 to 11 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH93 Mataura to Clinton: Drainage work for a road rebuild will take place from 3 to 8 November, 7 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
SH1 Edendale to Woodlands between the Edendale roundabout and Downs South Road : Road surface repairs and digging test pits to check road layers and material quality from 3 to 5 November, 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of around 10 minutes.

 

 

 

Dunedin to Queenstown

SH8 Milton to Raes Junction: Vegetation removal from a high wind event will take place from 3 to 7 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH8 Stableburn (south of Millers Flat): A 3 km road rebuild is underway from 28 October to 9 April 2026, weekdays from 7 am to 6 pm, with a full holiday break from 19 December to 12 January. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
SH6 Cromwell to Queenstown (Kawarau Gorge): Retaining wall strengthening will continue until 7 November, 9 am to 4 pm. Stop/go traffic management is in place. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
SH6 Cromwell to Queenstown (Nevis Bluff): Critical safety works will take place from 3 to 7 November, weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm, weather permitting. Stop/stop traffic management will be in place for up to 10 minutes throughout the day. Rock blasts are scheduled for Tuesday 4 November and Thursday 6 November at 1 pm, with the road closed for 1 hour.
SH6 Kawarau Gorge between the Goldfields mining centre and the Roarng Meg power station: Emergency work to repair damage recent weather damage will take place from 3 to 9 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of 10 minutes. Crews are on site 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Impacts and delays associated with this work require safe managment 24/7. Measures include temporary traffic management, and electronic signals to safely control the only available traffic lane.

 

 

 

Work on other key Otago highways

SH6 Devils Staircase (Kingston to Queenstown)SH6 Kawarau Gorge: Emergency work to repair damage from a recent weather event will take place from 3 to 9 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of 10 minutes. Crews are on site 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Impacts and delays associated with this work require safe management 24/7. Measures include temporary traffic management, and electronic signals to safely control the only available traffic lane.
SH6 at Makarora: Emergency repairs following a recent severe weather event will take place from 3 to 9 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 10 minutes.
SH8 Bendigo (between Cromwell and Tarras): Road rebuild work will take place from 3 to 9 November, Monday to Sunday, 8 am to 6 pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
SH83 Pukeuri to Georgetown (various locations): Road sealing repairs will take place from 3 to 7 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH83 Duntroon to Georgetown (various locations): Road sealing repairs will take place on 3 and 4 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
SH85 Palmerston to Dunback Road: A road rebuild will continue through to 19 December, Monday to Friday, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
SH90 Raes Junction to Waipahi Highway: High-pressure water cutting to improve road grip and skid resistance will take place from 3 to 21 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
