AI Framework for Carleton University

Following a comprehensive consultation process, the Office of the Vice-Provost (Academic and Global Learning) is pleased to share the AI Framework for Carleton University.

This framework acknowledges Carleton’s significant research strengths in AI while providing guidance on its use across the university, ensuring that academics, staff and students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to use AI critically, effectively, responsibly and ethically.  AI is a rapidly evolving field, and so this framework is a living document.

As the university gains experience with AI, the implementation guidance will be routinely reviewed and updated.

Melanie Brochu wins EDI Research Award

2026 Student EDI Research Award Recipient

Congratulations to Mélanie M. Brochu, a master's student in Biology and a Wolastoqewi researcher from Neqotkuk First Nation in New Brunswick who has received a Student EDI Research Award! Brochu will receive funding for a summer research project related to equity, diversity and inclusion from the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and administered by the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities.

Brochu's work examines how Indigenous peoples, knowledges, and stewardship are represented, or excluded, in environmental monitoring research.

As the granddaughter of an Indian Day School survivor, her work is deeply tied to her relationships with community and land through practices such as harvesting, fishing, canoeing and ceremony, which shape her understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems as central to long‑term stewardship. Through the Student EDI Research Award, she is investigating how meaningful Indigenous involvement can strengthen monitoring programs, improve conservation outcomes and support culturally grounded, community‑driven approaches.

Under the supervision of Prof. Vivian Nguyen, Brochu aims to develop an interdisciplinary project grounded in Indigenous methodologies with the goal of creating knowledge‑sharing outputs that are accessible to both academic and community audiences. Her project contributes to broader conversations about Indigenous governance, stewardship and relationality in environmental research.

Director Anne Bordeleau speaking to graduating master of architecture students

Architecture: Annual Dinner in the Street

The Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism held its annual Dinner in the Street on April 23 celebrating its M.Arch students.

More than 90 people attended the event including thesis students, faculty, staff, visiting reviewers, and donors. This celebration capped off three days of thesis presentations, which included installations, drawings, models, texts, photography, maps, textiles, sound, video, and more on a wide range of themes.

“The work accomplished is truly remarkable,” said Director Anne Bordeleau. “The depth and the breadth of your inquiries are impressive." She also commented on the strength residing in the diversity of the School community, encouraging graduates to carry with them, "...the importance of this place, where professional training fundamentally includes questions of social equity and environmental justice, forming a school and community in which architecture can be approached in all its relations."

Three graduating students, Daphne Stams, Dylan Jozkow, and Keegan Metheringham were nominated to speak on behalf of their graduating class. They spoke about lessons learned, the impact of the faculty, staff and peers, and change that will come with transitioning into the next chapter.
