BB New Zealand Communication Kia ora Its exciting to see so much going on around BB through the winter months, with much to share! NLDC was held last month at Nelson Lakes and it was a privilege to attend and witness the development and maturity of our Delta Senior boys who will be our future leaders. In this edition we also ask that captains and leaders of companies/units encourage their boys to register for the Queens Badge and the award ceremony to be held 3rd of December at Government House in Wellington. We also report on an initiative to tidy up one of the lodges run by the BB Northern Regional Trust and the community spirit of one of our fabulous leaders from Tauranga. I am continually reminded of the exciting objective we strive for, "The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys' and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true, Christian manliness." Due to the disruption of Covid last year the Queens Badge Award presentation was held in late February instead of December. This year we have secured the 3rd of December so will return to the normal timing for the event. If you have young men who are eligible for their Queens Award, please register immediately so we can prepare the event and notify Government House on the numbers we expect. Please click on the link below to register before Friday 2nd September and we will follow up with to ensure you have all the information needed. Michael Stead Lodge Project We acknowledge Stu Thompson our National Programme Director who does so much more!! Stu has recently organized a crew made up of youth from ICONZ Tauranga and other youth doing Duke of Ed to help do up the Michael Stead Lodge in the beautiful Kauaeranga Valley on the Coromandel Peninsular. Stu has spent a huge amount of his time coordinating and organizing volunteers to work on this project. Now that's what we call serving the community - Legend! NLDC 2022 held in the Nelson Lakes last month was again a huge success and with mostly acceptable weather apart from being a wee bit chilly for us Aucklanders!! We were put to shame on the last day while complaining about the temperature only to see a number of Southern Men in shorts! Well done to the 12 young men who completed Stage 2 and the 7 who completed Stage 1 with a few no shows due to illness. We acknowledge the NLDC Management Team for a course well run. Appreciation and thanks goes to Stefan Grigg who has stepped down after NLDC 2022 as Course Director. Stefan has done a fantastic job over the last few years, and dealt with weather conditions and logistics with the calm and precision of a military leader. He will be missed! I would encourage all leaders to engage your young men when they become eligible to attend this very worthwhile course in 2023. NLDC 2022Acknowledgement We would like to acknowledge Brenda Watkin who coordinates ICONZ Island Bay in Wellington and recently received a very special award. We have the except from the email sent to us which says it all. Thank you Brenda! Hey guys, just thought I’d share this with you - last night Brenda got an Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian Award. So awesome, and so well deserved. She’s been doing Girls’ Brigade for nearly 40 years, and been involved in Boys’ Brigade for over 50 years. Pretty inspiring!! Xxx (Nathan Parry) TributeWe also pass on our condolences to Paul Beaumont and family in Christchurch on the recent passing of Joan.
