Entire southbound lane opens this weekend
Weather dependent, the remaining southbound connection from Halswell Junction Road through to Shands Road Interchange will open this Saturday afternoon, 12 September.
A single lane of southbound traffic will then be able to travel the entire length of the Christchurch Southern Motorway all the way through to Main South Road.
The Shands Road Interchange will also be fully operational with the new off-ramp open allowing southbound traffic to exit the motorway onto Shands Road. (See diagram above.)
To prepare for the opening, night works will start on Friday 11 September at Halswell Junction Interchange. Traffic management will be in place, so please be alert and drive to the road conditions.
Speed restrictions will be in place across the entire length of motorway, reducing in sections where pavement is freshly laid. This protects the new road surface and helps prevent costly and disruptive repair work later on.
Please be patient while we all get used to the new road layout, make sure you stick to the speeds and enjoy the ride.
