Waimakariri northbound bridge closed this weekend

This weekend will see the third of four concrete pours for the new third lane decks on the Waimakariri Bridge.

A contraflow traffic control (where both north and southbound traffic use the southbound bridge - one lane in each direction) will be in place from 6pm on Friday 18 October to 5.30am on Monday 21 October.

The Tram Road on-ramp will be closed from around 7am to 6pm on 19 and 20 October. This is to reduce the traffic flow on SH1 southbound before the bridge.

A 60 km/h speed limit will be in place, please expect slow moving traffic on SH1 in both directions and merge like a zip before the bridge.

The bridge needs to stay closed for the whole weekend to ensure there is no traffic vibration while the concrete cures. When the concrete is dry enough we can reopen the bridge. Bad weather will see this pour rescheduled to the following weekend.

Chaneys on-ramp opens, Main North Rd Stop/Go ends and SH1 lane reduction for sealing

From Friday evening 1 November, the Stop/Go signals on Main North Road near Chaneys On-ramp will be gone and two-way traffic will return to normal.

On Wednesday evening 6 November the Chaneys on-ramp will re-open until the CNC project opens in mid-2020. The left hand turn from Marshland Road will also re-open at this time.

However, this weekend, beginning Friday evening 18 October, two-way traffic on Main North Road, will be opened up temporarily to ease traffic flow while a concrete pour takes place at the Waimakariri Bridge.

On Friday evening 1 November until 4pm Monday 4 November we will be sealing the new lane on SH1 that connects to the new CNC motorway. For the sealing (foam bitumen stabilisation) work, we will close one northbound lane on SH1 between the Western Belfast Bypass and the Waimakariri Bridge.  There will be a temporary 30km/h speed limit in place during the work and while the gravel remains loose.
