Welcome our latest project update from the  Takaka Hill repairs team.

The crew have made solid progress over the last month and are on track to open two lanes by the end of the year.

There are two further five-night road closures, with the first underway this week.

Following are the final works being undertaken, ahead of the road reopening at the end of the year:

  • Site 6 - Ground beams have been readied for guardrail installation and the team are preparing the site for pavement works in the November and December night closures
  • Site 7 - The last bit of guardrail is to be completed
  • Site 9 - Minor works to complete
  • Site 11 - Guardrail construction, then pavement
  • Site 13 - Guardrail construction, then pavement

The images below give you a sense of intergation within road construction

You'll find more information below about the upcoming night closures so you can plan ahead.

Visit our gallery for all of the project's visual updates.

Plan ahead for 5-night road closures

November 22-27, from 9pm to 5am each weekday night

This planned closure is to complete paving and remaining wall works across all sites.

December 6-11, from 9pm to 5am each weekday night

This planned closure is to complete road marking and remaining surface works.

These works are weather dependent.

For safety reasons, and to minimise disruption to road users, this work must be done at night.

These are the final intended night road closures.

If you need access over the hill for night work or essential commitments, please email takakahill@nzta.govt.nz. We will do our best to accommodate your needs, but cannot guarantee access.

Access is always available for emergency vehicles throughout the closure.
