Waihoehoe Road upgrade

Project update

20 May 2025

Project newsletter | He pānui

We are pleased to bring you this Waihoehoe Road Upgrade project newsletter.  This issue includes an update on the enabling works and the Drury village shops and details about the upcoming community information day on Saturday 24 May 2025.

Enabling works | Ngā whakaritenga

We have now completed setting up the site in preparation for construction of the main Waihoehoe Road upgrade project.

Around 70m of hoarding walls have been installed along both sides of the rail tracks near Tui Street. The walls were installed early during KiwiRail’s full rail shutdowns over the 2024 Christmas period and school holidays in April 2025 as they could only be built when trains weren’t running.

The enabling works have created a safe area for the construction team to work near the rail tracks once construction gets underway late this year, while minimising impacts to the normal running of the rail network.

Drury Village shops | Nga toa ki Drury

Auckland Transport has now purchased the property at 232 Great South Road on which the Drury village shops are located, which is needed for construction of the Waihoehoe Road upgrade project.

Auckland Transport will continue the current lease arrangements with the shop tenants until at least 30 September 2025.

After that date, the leases can be extended on a month-to-month basis to enable the shops to remain open for as long as possible before construction starts.
