While spectacular to see, we encourage you to protect these great creatures for generations to come by being whale wise on the Great Barrier Reef. © Tourism and Events Queensland Plan your Cairns Reef tripWhen visiting the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns it's important to know where you can go and what you can take from the Reef as specific sites have specific rules. As a visitor, the onus is on you to familiarise yourself with the Cairns Area Plan of Management, before you visit the Reef. © Commonwealth of Australia (Reef Authority) Shining a light on lighthousesOn Monday the 7th of August we celebrate National Light house day by shining a light on lighthouses and those who manage them. These beacons of hope have aided coastal navigation, warning mariners of hazards and guiding them to their destinations for the last 200 years on the Great Barrier Reef. © Commonwealth of Australia (Reef Authority) World Heritage draft decisionThe UNESCO World Heritage Centre has published a draft decision about the Great Barrier Reef ahead of the September session of the World Heritage Committee, to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The draft decision does not recommend the World Heritage Committee place the Great Barrier Reef on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority acknowledges the continuing sea country management and custodianship of the Great Barrier Reef by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Owners whose rich cultures, heritage values, enduring connections and shared efforts protect the Reef for future generations. |
